After the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Butler, PA, on Saturday, July 13, 50 Cent’s 2003 song “Many Men” has become very popular again. The song is being used in many memes and videos about the event on social media. Even 50 Cent joined in on the trend.
The famous rapper changed the cover of his album Get Rich or Die Tryin’, putting Trump’s face over his own. He showed this image to a crowd in Boston that same night and shared it on social media, writing, “Trump gets shot and now I’m trending,” on X.
According to Billboard, “Many Men” got over 2.2 million U.S. on-demand audio streams from July 13-15, a 250% increase from the previous Saturday-to-Monday period. The song’s lyrics talk about 50 Cent’s own experience with a real-life shooting.
“Many men wish death upon me/ Blood in my eye, dog, and I can’t see/ I’m tryin’ to be what I’m destined to be/ And ni**as tryin’ to take my life away,” 50 Cent raps in the song. He has talked before about how scary it was to be shot, telling MTV News, “It happens so fast that you don’t even get a chance to shoot back.
Your first reaction is to move, and then the shots are going off, and you’re jumping around the backseat. I was scared the whole time. Ain’t nobody going to tell you they ain’t scared in that situation. It’s a hit, man. You’re supposed to die in that situation. They’re not playing.”
Since the attempt on Trump’s life, he has been seen with a large white bandage covering his ear. CNN reported that US Rep. Ronny Jackson, Trump’s former White House doctor, checked the wound and provided the bandages. Jackson said, “There was no concussive effect from the bullet. It just took the top of his ear off, a little bit of the top of his ear off, as it passed through. It was bleeding like crazy.”
