Alijah Arenas Shows Signs of Recovery After Serious Car Crash

Two days after a devastating car accident, 18-year-old basketball standout Alijah Arenas is no longer in a medically induced coma, according to a statement from his family, as reported by People magazine. However, Arenas remains intubated as he continues his recovery.

The son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, Alijah sustained serious injuries on Thursday when his Tesla Cybertruck crashed into a tree and fire hydrant in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

Despite the severity of the accident, Arenas has shown “significant signs of progress within the last 24 hours,” his family shared in an update via ESPN.

Details of the Crash

According to ESPN, Arenas’ family said he was aware of the incident immediately after the crash, writing to ask, “Did anyone get hurt?” despite being heavily sedated.

A bystander at the scene described the frantic effort to rescue Arenas from the burning vehicle. “I remember hearing banging on the car window, but I couldn’t see anything because the smoke was so thick,” the bystander recalled. “I realized someone was inside.

I tried to break the window, but it wouldn’t give. Then I saw a crack in one of the windows, and we used everything we had to bend it and pull him out. The car was on fire. We just knew we had to get him out.”

The Arenas family later expressed their profound gratitude to the Good Samaritan, calling Alijah’s survival “nothing short of miraculous.”

“The family continues to ask for the public’s prayers and support as their miracle baby fights his way back to a full recovery,” the statement said. “They remain deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by his medical team and the overwhelming love and encouragement from the community.”
