Angel Reese Makes WNBA History with Back-to-Back Record Performances

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is making waves in the WNBA, becoming the first player in league history to record 20 rebounds in back-to-back games. The 2024 All-Star achieved this remarkable feat during two standout performances: first on August 18 against the Phoenix Mercury and then again on August 23 against the Connecticut Sun, where she also scored 13 points.

While the Chicago Sky did not secure victories in either game, Reese’s historic achievement has captured the attention of the basketball world. ESPN highlighted her record-breaking performances, noting that Reese is not just setting records within the WNBA but is also making history in basketball overall.

She is the first rookie—across both the NBA and WNBA—to grab 20 rebounds in consecutive games since Shaquille O’Neal achieved the feat during the 1992-93 NBA season.

Adding to her accolades, Angel Reese is only the second player in WNBA history to record multiple 20-rebound games during her rookie season, a milestone confirmed by the league itself.

Rebounding has become Reese’s signature strength, with the 6-foot-3 forward consistently dominating the boards. She has reached double-digit rebounds in 24 out of 29 games so far and currently leads the WNBA with an average of 12.6 rebounds per game.

This latest accomplishment is just one of many for Angel Reese during her impressive rookie campaign. She has also notched consecutive double-doubles in 15 games, setting a new record with 10 straight. These achievements have positioned her as a strong contender for the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year award.

Despite being left off Team USA’s Olympic roster—along with her main Rookie of the Year competitor, Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark—Angel Reese continues to prove herself as a dominant force in the league.

As the season draws to a close, she may yet add more record-breaking performances to her already impressive resume, solidifying her case as the league’s top rookie in 2024.
