Angel Reese Reveals Her WNBA Salary Can't Cover Her Rent

Angel Reese, a rising star in the WNBA, has been making headlines both on and off the court. Recently, she shared that her side jobs are helping her pay her bills since her WNBA salary isn’t enough to cover her main expenses.

During an Instagram Live session, Reese joked with her followers, saying, “Hating pays the bills,” referring to how criticism and outside opportunities are helping her get by. She explained that her WNBA salary doesn’t even cover her rent.

“Hating pays them bills, baby. I just hope you know the WNBA doesn’t pay my bills at all,” she said. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally, I’m trying to think of my rent. Let me do the math real quick. I don’t even know my [WNBA] salary. $74,000?”

Reese’s friend helped her calculate that her salary doesn’t cover her $8,000 rent. Laughing, Reese added, “I’m living above my means!” She also joked, “If you thought the WNBA check paid my bills… it doesn’t even cover my car note. I wouldn’t even be able to buy a sandwich with that.”

“Babe, if y’all thought… That WNBA check don’t pay a thing. Did that even pay my car note?… I wouldn’t even be able to eat a sandwich with that. I wouldn’t even be able to eat. I wouldn’t be able to live,” she went on.

Luckily, Reese has other ways to make money, including sponsorships and her new podcast, Unapologetically Angel, which launched in September 2024. The podcast has featured big names like Latto, Mariah The Scientist, Kayla Nicole, and Dwyane Wade.

Reese’s success isn’t just off the court. She was recently named one of Sports Illustrated’s 50 Most Influential Athletes of 2024. She also made history this season by setting the record for the most consecutive double-doubles in the league and breaking the WNBA single-season rebounding record.

The 22-year-old also became the first rookie in American pro basketball to have back-to-back 20-rebound games since NBA star Shaquille O’Neal did it in 1993. With her talent and growing fame, Angel Reese is on track for an even brighter future.
