Daymond John Leads Black Entrepreneurs Day with $100,000 in Grants

This year, Shark Tank investor Daymond John is leading the fifth annual Black Entrepreneurs Day, an event to support Black-owned businesses with $100,000 in grants. The event, happening on November 22 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, will be free and celebrate Black entrepreneurship.

Special guests include Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles, Charlamagne tha God, Flavor Flav, and 2Chainz.

Daymond John started Black Entrepreneurs Day in 2020, following the racial justice movement after George Floyd’s death. This year, the grants are designed to help Black businesses without asking for any ownership in return.

Applications are open through November 1. John shared that the ideal applicant is someone with a clear vision. “If you can explain who you’re helping, why you’re the one to do it, and how these funds will make a difference, that’s all you need,” he told Inc.

Helping Black Entrepreneurs Succeed

Daymond John spoke about the extra challenges Black entrepreneurs face, noting, “We don’t come from legacy wealth… We’re often the last to hire and the first to fire, which makes it hard.”

But he believes technology and social media are creating more opportunities. “With access to information, plus funding and inspiration, we now have a better shot than ever,” he added.

John also praised the companies that continue to support Black entrepreneurs, even as attention to racial justice has faded for some. “Some companies don’t see it as the thing to do anymore, and I’m not blaming them,” he said. “But I’m grateful to those who still believe in this cause, even when the spotlight isn’t as bright.”

This event reflects John’s vision of moving from “burning businesses” to empowering communities to build and grow.
