Elon Musk Donates to PAC Supporting Trump’s 2024 Presidential Campaign

Billionaire Elon Musk has made a huge donation to a super political action committee (PAC) supporting Donald Trump’s bid for the White House. Musk’s contribution went to a relatively low-profile group called America PAC.
While the exact amount of Musk’s donation is unknown, sources familiar with the matter described it as substantial. The PAC is scheduled to disclose its donor list on July 15.
This donation underscores the growing political influence of Elon Musk, who tops the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a net worth of $263.6 billion. Musk, who previously identified as a political independent and preferred to avoid politics, has increasingly used his X social media platform to express right-leaning views and criticize Democrats.
Musk’s financial support comes at a crucial time as Trump has surpassed his rival, US President Joe Biden, in fundraising. Trump has gained significant contributions from Wall Street and corporate donors, while Biden’s fundraising efforts have declined following a problematic debate that led major Democratic donors to withhold their support.
Although Elon Musk has not publicly endorsed a candidate for the 2024 election and previously stated he did not plan to finance either Trump or Biden, his donation positions him as a potential major financial backer for the Republicans.
The Trump campaign and America PAC’s treasurer, Chris Gober, declined to comment on the donation. America PAC is primarily working behind the scenes to strengthen Trump’s campaign efforts, focusing on canvassing and get-out-the-vote initiatives in key battleground states.
Musk’s contribution could significantly impact Biden and the Democrats, who are already facing internal conflicts over the president’s political future. Democrats have invested heavily in field offices and staff in swing states, which Biden frequently highlights in his campaign speeches.
A Super PAC supporting Trump with similar efforts gives Republicans a considerable financial edge, allowing them to allocate official campaign funds elsewhere. This is expected to be the most expensive presidential election in US history.
America PAC is the largest spender among outside groups backing Trump, with $15.8 million spent so far, including $13.1 million on field operations. The group focuses on door-to-door persuasion and voter outreach efforts, coordinating with campaigns on these activities.
America PAC has hired In Field Strategies, a national grassroots firm that has also worked for the Republican National Committee. Representatives for In Field did not respond to requests for comment.
Musk’s political contributions make him an even more powerful figure in Washington. His wealth primarily comes from his holdings in Tesla, SpaceX, and X. His companies frequently secure large government contracts and often clash with federal agencies over regulations.
Some of Trump’s proposed policies, such as rolling back Biden’s measures to transition to electric vehicles and imposing tariffs on Chinese EV makers, would directly affect Tesla. Although Musk and Trump have had disagreements in the past, their relationship has grown closer, with Musk advising Trump on electric vehicles and cryptocurrency policy.
During Tesla’s annual meeting last month, Musk commented on his relationship with Trump, saying, “He does call me out of the blue for no reason.”
