Elon Musk Plans to Buy a Premier League Club

Elon Musk’s interest in acquiring a Premier League football club has gained credibility following remarks from his father, Errol Musk. Speculation around Musk’s potential bid for Liverpool FC was sparked by a report from the Weekend Sport, hinting at the tech mogul’s intentions to take over one of England’s top football teams.
Elon Musk, named the world’s richest person by Forbes with an estimated net worth of $425.2 billion, has a deep-rooted connection to Liverpool through his grandmother, Cora Robinson, who was born there in 1923 before emigrating to South Africa.
These ties were emphasized during a recent interview on Times Radio with Errol Musk, who responded to questions about his son’s interest in Liverpool with a hint of confirmation, saying, “[He has expressed a desire], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.”
“Does your son want to buy Liverpool Football Club?” Errol was asked on Times Radio.
“I can’t comment on that, they’ll raise the price,” he chuckled in reply, before adding: “Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.”
The Musk family’s connection to Liverpool extends beyond familial ties, as Errol Musk noted interactions with members of the Beatles, who were contemporaries of some relatives. The cultural and personal connections to the city appear to strengthen the case for Elon Musk’s interest in the club.
How much would Liverpool cost Musk?
Liverpool FC is currently owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and is valued at approximately £4.2 billion by Forbes. Despite this high valuation, and a recent £4.25 billion takeover of Chelsea by a consortium led by Todd Boehly, FSG’s principal owner John W. Henry has downplayed the likelihood of a sale.
However, he acknowledged ongoing discussions with potential investors, which could lead to the sale of a minority stake, reflecting a transaction similar to the one FSG completed with Dynasty Equity, valued between £82 million and £164 million.
As it stands, while Elon Musk’s potential acquisition of Liverpool FC remains uncertain, the billionaire’s interest in the club, driven by personal and familial connections, continues to be a topic of fascination and speculation in the sports world.
