Eve Opens Up About Her Insecurities During Nicki Minaj’s Rise in the Music Industry

In her new memoir, Grammy-winning rapper Eve talks about how she started seeing a therapist when she felt insecure as Nicki Minaj became more popular in the hip-hop world.

Eve shared her feelings in an interview with CNN on September 21, explaining that it’s normal to feel unsure when someone new comes into your space, especially in a competitive industry like music.

Eve’s book, “Who’s That Girl,” reveals that instead of turning to drinking or other unhealthy habits to cope with her anxiety, she chose therapy. She pointed out that her insecurities were not about Minaj herself but were more about the pressures from the music industry and being one of the few women in it.

She admitted thinking it was silly to feel threatened by Minaj’s success, saying, “I was thinking, how can she be here and how can I be here, which is stupid, which is so dumb.” Eve was initially hesitant to include these personal thoughts in her book but is glad she did.

Eve also discussed how women in the industry often project their insecurities onto each other, a pattern she noticed early in her career. She emphasized the importance of preparing herself both mentally and physically to not repeat that behavior.

Nicki Minaj responded to Eve’s openness with a supportive letter on X, formerly known as Twitter, on September 22. Minaj praised Eve for her honesty and emotional maturity, writing, “The level of grace, the level of emotional & spiritual maturity it takes to be this vulnerable & transparent is a sign of TRUE peace, happiness, fulfillment, & mastery of self.” Minaj highlighted how important it is to be self-aware and accountable.
