Lionsgate has released the trailer for the new action thriller “1992,” produced by Snoop Dogg and starring Tyrese Gibson. The movie tells the story of a father who gets involved in a risky heist to save his son from criminals during the 1992 L.A. riots.
“1992 was a big year for me, from ‘Deep Cover’ to ‘The Chronic.’ But while my life was coming together, L.A. was falling apart. ‘1992’ is a heist movie that captures all of that,” Snoop Dogg said in a statement to Blavity’s Shadow and Act.
“This movie is about a moment in L.A. Ariel made a great film that shows this time. From my first time working with Tyrese Gibson in ‘Baby Boy’ to his role in ‘1992,’ I had to be part of this. It’s fitting that the film is released by Death Row Pictures because Death Row is a big part of L.A. culture in the 90s.”
The film also stars Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Christopher A’mmanuel, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola, and Oleg Taktarov, with Scott Eastwood and Ray Liotta in one of his last roles.
“Snoop is one of the most loved figures in entertainment, and I’m very thankful he joined our project,” Tyrese Gibson said. “Ray Liotta blessed us all while making this film. We feel lucky to have captured such a great performance for his last role.”
The movie is directed by Ariel Vromen, who co-wrote the script with Sacha Penn. Producers include Penn, Vromen, Andreas Rommel, Maurice Fadida, and Adam Kolbrenner.
“I’m grateful to have worked with Tyrese Gibson on many projects over the years,” said Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “And I’ve admired Snoop Dogg for 30 years. It’s exciting that he decided to executive produce ‘1992.’ His personal connection to the story makes his team at Death Row Pictures perfect partners.”
“1992” will be in theaters on August 30.
