Floyd Mayweather's Gym Staff Protest Over Unpaid Wages

Employees at Floyd Mayweather’s Los Angeles gym, Mayweather Boxing and Fitness, have launched a protest over claims of unpaid wages.

The staff alleges that they have not been paid for several weeks, prompting a demonstration outside the gym with signs decrying the situation as “modern-day slavery” and proclaiming “The $ Team Has No Money $,” according to the Daily Mail.

Floyd Mayweather, whose lavish lifestyle and substantial earnings from his boxing career have earned him the nickname “Money,” reportedly has a net worth estimated at $400 million.

The irony of the wage dispute has not been lost on his employees, who are expressing growing frustration over the lack of payment.

An employee told the Daily Mail, “We’re out here just letting everybody know that they have not been treating us right. Even if you work for a different company and you aren’t getting paid, you’re scared to show up and say something because you know how businesses do.

They silence you and they fire you because everything’s ‘at will.'”

The protest also highlights the legal issues at stake, with employees claiming that the unpaid wages violate California Labor Code. If proven, Floyd Mayweather could face fines ranging from $100 to $200 for each instance of wage theft.

Despite the potential fines, which may seem minor given Mayweather’s wealth—highlighted by his $275 million earnings from a single 2018 fight against Conor McGregor—the legal repercussions could escalate.

Employees might be entitled to a full day’s wages for each day the payment is delayed past 30 days.

The situation raises broader concerns about the future of Floyd Mayweather’s business ventures. One employee voiced uncertainty about Mayweather’s awareness of the situation, stating, “Who knows if he’s aware or not? We don’t.

I was told that we can’t tell him and I can’t tell him that our studio’s closing. He was here two weeks ago. We’ve been silenced.”

Moreover, there are indications that the gym may face additional financial troubles, such as potential closure due to unpaid rent, an issue that previously led to the shutdown of another Mayweather gym location in California.
