Halle Berry Open to Reprising Catwoman Role with Some Changes

It’s been 20 years since Halle Berry first donned the iconic Catwoman suit in the 2004 film. Recently, the Hollywood star sat down with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show, where she discussed whether she’d consider reprising her role as Patience Phillips, a cosmetics employee reborn with superhuman feline powers.

“You are ageless. You are timeless, and that makes me think we need a Catwoman movie,” Cohen said. “Would you ever return if they asked you to be Catwoman again?”

Berry, now 58, responded with enthusiasm: “I love Catwoman. I do. Yeah. We’d make some changes, but yeah. I love Catwoman. Very close to my heart.”

“I felt like it was Halle Berry’s failure, but I didn’t make it alone,” she told the outlet. “All these years, I’ve absolutely carried it. I didn’t love [the backlash]. Being a Black woman, I’m used to carrying negativity on my back, fighting, being a fish swimming upstream by myself. I’m used to defying stereotypes and making a way out of no way.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the film, Berry took to Instagram in July, sharing playful photos posing in bikini bottoms surrounded by rescue cats. “And STILL… meow!” she captioned the post. “It’s been 20 years today since I had the honor of bringing this iconic character to life.”

Despite her personal connection to the character, Catwoman didn’t fare well at the box office, grossing just over $82 million worldwide and winning several “Worst” awards. Reflecting on the film’s reception, Berry told Entertainment Weekly, “I felt like it was Halle Berry’s failure, but I didn’t make it alone. I’ve carried it all these years.”

Berry also shared her initial doubts about the film’s plot, which focused on Catwoman saving women from a harmful face cream. “I always thought the idea of saving women from a face cream felt a bit soft,” she admitted, comparing it to other superheroes who save the world.

Berry is now starring in a new film, Never Let Go, where she plays a mother of two living in an isolated forest, a role that is a far cry from her Catwoman days. The film releases on Sept. 20.
