Isaac Hayes’ Family May Sue Donald Trump for Using Songs Without Permission

Isaac Hayes’ family is considering suing Donald Trump because he used Hayes’ music in his political campaigns without asking. Isaac Hayes III, the son of the famous singer, shared his frustrations on Instagram on August 10, which marked 16 years since his father passed away.
Hayes III pointed out that despite many requests to Donald Trump and his team not to use the song “Hold On, I’m Coming,” it was played again at a rally in Montana. He criticized Trump for not respecting the family’s wishes and stated that they are ready to take serious legal action to stop this from happening again.
The Hayes family stands with other musicians who have had their songs used without their permission by political campaigns. Hayes III emphasized that a musician’s work is a reflection of their soul and should not be used to spread hate or division.
On August 11, Hayes III posted a notice on Instagram that was sent to Trump. It demanded Trump stop using the song by August 16 and pay the family $3 million, which is much less than what they would normally charge.
The notice warned that the cost could go up to $150,000 for each time the song was used if they decide to take legal action. Hayes III also mentioned that Trump’s campaign had already used the song 134 times.
In a discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, Hayes III remembered being upset when Donald Trump played the song at a 2022 NRA rally soon after a tragic school shooting.
He shared his concerns about Trump’s negative remarks towards women and his inappropriate behavior, highlighting that he has seven sisters and does not want the song associated with Trump. Hayes III expects Donald Trump to completely remove the song from his platforms and to not use it ever again.
This problem of using songs without permission isn’t just with the Hayes family. Representatives for singer Celine Dion also spoke out against Trump for playing her song “My Heart Will Go On” at the same Montana rally, stating clearly that Dion does not approve of this use.
Other artists like the Rolling Stones and Adele have also asked Trump not to use their music in his political events.
