In his latest Netflix special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…”, Jamie Foxx has opened up about a severe health crisis that struck him last year, leaving him hospitalized and with a gap in his memory spanning 20 days from April to May 2023.
During the special, released on December 10, Foxx, aged 56, disclosed that he had suffered from a brain bleed that led to a stroke.
The alarming symptoms began on April 11, 2023, with a severe headache while Foxx was working on the film “Back in Action” alongside Glenn Close and Cameron Diaz, set for a January 2025 release on Netflix.
His condition quickly escalated, resulting in his hospitalization. During this time, his family, including his daughters Corinne Foxx and Anelise Bishop, and his sister Deidra Dixon, gathered by his bedside, signaling the gravity of his condition.
Foxx shared that the initial days of his medical emergency were a blur and that his recovery involved significant rehabilitation efforts in Chicago, where he found himself wheelchair-bound and unable to walk when he regained consciousness in early May.
Throughout his special, Foxx expressed his closeness to death and extended gratitude towards his fans for their support and prayers. He also revealed that the cause of his medical emergency remains undetermined, adding a layer of mystery to his harrowing experience.
Foxx humorously recounted parts of his recovery, mentioning how he joked about giving a dismissive doctor “half a star” in an online review. He shared touching moments of family support, particularly from his sister, who he said was divinely guided to the right hospital and fiercely advocated for his immediate surgery.
This health scare has not only been a transformative ordeal for Foxx but also a testament to the support he received from his family, which he credits for his ongoing recovery. The incident underscores the unpredictability of health and the critical importance of immediate and effective medical response.
