Jay-Z Becomes the Most Awarded Rapper in Grammy History

Beyoncé’s victory at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night not only earned her the prestigious Album of the Year award but also propelled her husband, Jay-Z, to a historic milestone in the music industry.

With writing credits on Beyoncé’s award-winning album, Jay-Z has now surpassed all other rappers by becoming the most awarded rapper in Grammy history, breaking a tie with his former friend and collaborator, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.

The night was doubly successful for Beyoncé, who also clinched her first country Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance with “II Most Wanted,” featuring Miley Cyrus, and added another trophy with Best Country Album for “Cowboy Carter.”

The event also revisited a poignant moment from last year’s ceremony when Jay-Z, during his acceptance speech for the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, openly criticized the Grammy committee. In a speech that quickly went viral, he defended Beyoncé against the Recording Academy’s previous oversights.

“We love y’all,” Jay-Z addressed the audience, with their daughter Blue Ivy by his side, who herself is a Grammy winner. “We want y’all to get it right. I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone and has never won Album of the Year.

So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys; never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work.”

This year, the Recording Academy rectified past controversies, culminating in a night where the Carters’ Grammy count soared to a remarkable total of 61 awards, signaling a new chapter of recognition and accomplishment for the powerhouse family.
