Jimmy Butler Sued for Unpaid Rent and Property Damage After Miami Exit

Despite his recent trade to the Golden State Warriors, Jimmy Butler is facing legal troubles tied to his time in Miami. A luxury property management company has filed a lawsuit against the star forward, accusing him of unpaid rent and significant damages to the home he leased in Florida.
According to Field Level Media, Five Star Marketing and Promotions, Inc. has sued Jimmy Butler for allegedly failing to pay $260,000 in rent and causing over $127,000 in damages to the Miami Beach property.
The lawsuit, filed in Florida’s 11th Circuit Court, claims Jimmy Butler stayed in the home for two months after his lease expired in August 2024. Under the terms of his contract, remaining beyond the lease period without written permission required double rent—$130,000 per month—which the company says Butler failed to pay.
The lawsuit also accuses Butler of changing the locks and refusing to provide keys to the property owner, blocking access for maintenance workers. As a result, critical home systems, including the air conditioning and swimming pool, were neglected, leading to severe mold damage that required costly repairs to ceilings and floors.
Five Star Marketing and Promotions is seeking a $257,282 judgment and the right to retain Butler’s $130,000 security deposit to cover the damages. Court documents detail the extent of the alleged destruction, including mold growth, damaged drywall and flooring, a malfunctioning HVAC system, and an unmaintained pool.
Butler, who was traded to the Warriors in February as part of a multi-team deal, has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. The trade saw Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a top-10 protected 2025 first-round pick head to Miami, while Dennis Schroder was sent to Utah and P.J. Tucker returned to the Heat.
As Butler begins a new chapter in Golden State, he may have to settle lingering issues from his Miami days off the court.
