Legendary boxer George Foreman, known for both his achievements in the ring and his famous grill, has passed away at 76. His family announced on Instagram that he died peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
The post said, “Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr.” It praised him as a devoted preacher, husband, father, and grandfather who lived a life full of faith and purpose.
Foreman made history early in his life by winning an Olympic gold medal at the 1968 Games in Mexico City. He later became a two-time heavyweight champion, knocking out Joe Frazier and fighting in the famous “Rumble in the Jungle” against Muhammad Ali.
“A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.”
In 1994, at age 45, he won the heavyweight title again by defeating Michael Moorer, making him the oldest boxer ever to hold the belt.
The statement highlighted his achievements in the boxing ring, which included winning the heavyweight title twice and an Olympic gold medal. It also acknowledged Foreman’s humanitarian work and overall being, calling him a “deeply respected […] force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name […] for his family.” As of publishing, Foreman’s cause of death is unknown.

Beyond boxing, Foreman’s name lives on in kitchens around the world through the George Foreman Lean Mean Grilling Machine. Since its launch in 1994, over 100 million units have been sold, turning it into a pop culture icon.
Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans as we remember a true champion both inside and outside the ring.
