Lil Nas X has always been open with his fans, and this week was no different. In a surprising Instagram post, the chart-topping artist revealed that he temporarily lost movement on the right side of his face.

The 25-year-old artist—born Montero Hill—posted a video from what appeared to be a hospital room, showing fans he couldn’t move half of his face. Lying on a bed, he tried to smile for the camera but was clearly struggling.
“Soooo lost control of the right side of my face 😭,” he captioned the video, trying to laugh through the discomfort. “This is me doing a full smile right now… I can’t even laugh right, bro. What the f**k. Oh my God.”
Despite the concerning situation, Lil Nas X kept his trademark humor intact—laughing at himself and making light of the moment. (Viewer discretion: strong language used in the clip)
“I’m Okay—Now Shake That Ass!”
Not long after the initial post, he followed up with another update to reassure his 10.4 million Instagram followers that he was doing better.
“GUYS I AM OK!! STOP BEING SAD FOR ME! SHAKE UR ASS FOR ME INSTEAD!” he wrote in a Reel, injecting some playful energy into a worrisome moment.
On April 15, the “Old Town Road” star gave another update, noting signs of improvement. “Okay, so a little update: I feel like this side is getting better,” he said, demonstrating the slight movement on the affected side of his face. “This right eye is keeping an eye out for Selena like it do not give a f**k,” he joked, referencing his signature sass while trying to wink.
While Lil Nas X didn’t reveal a diagnosis, the symptoms he described and displayed—sudden facial paralysis—are similar to conditions like Bell’s palsy. However, the artist has not confirmed any medical specifics at this time.
The health scare comes just weeks after the release of his EP Days Before Dreamboy in March. Fans are now eagerly awaiting his second full-length studio album, Dreamboy, set to drop later this year. It will follow the massive success of his debut album Montero, released in 2021.
Despite the setback, Lil Nas X remains upbeat and unapologetically himself, reminding fans once again why they love him—not just for the music, but for the way he shows up, unfiltered and real.
