Mariah Carey Heartbroken After Losing Both Mother and Sister on the Same Day

Mariah Carey, the famous R&B and Pop star, is mourning the loss of her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, who both passed away on the same day over the weekend. In a statement to People magazine, Carey shared the devastating news and reflected on her last moments with her mother.

“My heart is broken that I lost my mother this past weekend. Tragically, my sister also passed away on the same day,” the 55-year-old singer said. “I’m grateful that I got to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love, support, and respect for my privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

Carey’s relationships with both her mother and sister were complicated. Alison, who struggled with addiction and was HIV positive, had publicly spoken about her issues with Mariah over the years. In 2016, Alison even released a video asking Mariah for a reunion and help with her medical bills.

In her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the singer revealed that her sister, as a troubled teenager, once tried to sell her to a pimp. This and other difficult experiences led to the sisters becoming estranged.

Carey’s relationship with her mother, Patricia, was also complex. In her memoir, Carey described their bond as a mix of “betrayal and beauty.”

“Our story is one of betrayal and beauty, of love and abandonment, of sacrifice and survival,” Carey wrote. “I’ve freed myself from that pain many times, but there is still a cloud of sadness over me because of our complicated journey together.

It has caused me so much pain and confusion. Over time, I’ve realized there’s no point in trying to protect people who never protected me. Becoming a mother has finally given me the strength to face the truth about my relationship with my own mother.”

Carey’s grief is deepened by the complicated history she had with her family, making this loss even more painful.
