Michelle Obama Calls on Men to Support Kamala Harris in 2024

At a rally in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on October 26, former First Lady Michelle Obama urged men to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, saying it’s essential to support women’s rights. This was her first campaign appearance this season, and she shared how deeply she and many other women feel about Harris’s campaign.

Speaking directly to male voters, Obama said, “Men who love us, please take our lives seriously.” She highlighted the risks women face if their healthcare rights are ignored. “If your wife is struggling in the hospital during childbirth, you’ll be the one hoping it’s not too late,” she warned, emphasizing that women could suffer greatly if this election doesn’t go their way.

Obama also criticized the media for holding Harris to a higher standard than former President Donald Trump. “We ignore Trump’s flaws but expect Kamala to impress us every time,” she said, explaining that Harris is expected to be “smart, clear, and perfect,” while Trump is not required to show the same understanding or honesty.

Following Obama’s speech, Vice President Harris talked about the real impact of limited healthcare access for women, pointing out that some women have to travel to different states for the care they need. “There’s more at stake than just one issue,” she said, noting that both women and men are affected by healthcare and social issues.

Recent polls show the importance of Obama and Harris’s message. According to ABC News and Ipsos, Harris has strong support among Black men (85%) but less support from other groups, with 63% of Latinx men and only 38% of white men backing her.

Experts say that men who feel left out by diversity and equality policies often lean towards Trump, while women who believe Trump is unfit to lead are more likely to support Harris.

As November approaches, the 2024 election could be a turning point, not only for policy but also for the values of fairness and inclusion.
