Mike Tyson Hit with $1.5 Million Lawsuit for Alleged Contract Breach to Fight Jake Paul

Netflix Prepares to Launch Mike Tyson Docuseries

Legendary boxer Mike Tyson found himself embroiled in a legal battle following his recent high-profile boxing match against influencer Jake Paul. Mike Tyson, along with his company Tyrannic, faces a lawsuit exceeding $1.5 million, filed by Medier—the promoter for betting company Rabona—in London’s High Court.

The lawsuit stems from Tyson’s abrupt termination of his promotional contract with Medier in March, a deal that was initially signed in January. Medier claims that Tyson’s decision to end the agreement was not due to a breach of contract, as Tyson alleged, but rather because he had secured a lucrative deal, backed by Netflix, to fight Jake Paul.

According to court documents, Medier accuses Mike Tyson of failing to obtain approval for promotional materials, a condition stipulated in their contract. In response, Medier is demanding the return of more than $800,000 in fees already paid to Tyson for which they allege no services were provided.

“The true reason for Mr. Tyson and Tyrannic’s hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr. Tyson had agreed [to] a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul,” the lawsuit says.

They are also seeking compensation for $729,000 in what they describe as “wasted production and promotion costs.”

Despite losing the fight to Paul—an event that was added to his professional record—Tyson reportedly earned $20 million from the bout. The match took place on November 15, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, drawing a crowd of over 72,000 spectators and millions more streaming on Netflix.

The event not only attracted a massive audience but also became the most streamed sporting event in history with over 108 million viewers, despite criticisms of its quality.
