Renowned Nigerian gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has been invited to perform at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, set to take place on January 20 in Washington, D.C.
Nathaniel Bassey, hailing from Akwa Ibom, announced his participation via his Instagram, where he shared a poster of the event and expressed his enthusiasm with the message, “Let’s raise a sound in America. See you on January 20, 2025.”
The U.S prayer breakfast is a revered, non-political event that focuses on prayer and worship, serving as spiritual support for both the government and presidency.
This event, which occurs every four years to mark the commencement of a new administration, will precede the swearing-in of Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Hosted by Reverend Merrie Turner at the Waldorf Astoria Presidential Ballroom, the breakfast will feature a notable array of speakers, including civil rights activist Dr. Alveda King and Pastor Mario Bramnick.
Nathaniel Bassey, who is not only a pastor but also an acclaimed trumpeter, has gained international recognition through the Hallelujah Challenge, an online Christian worship movement he founded.
His popular tracks, such as “Imela,” “Onise Iyanu,” and “Olowogbogboro,” have solidified his status as one of Nigeria’s most influential gospel ministers, with a repertoire that includes jazz, worship, hymns, and medleys.
In recognition of his contributions to music and ministry, the Mayor of Albany, New York, honored him by proclaiming October 6 as “Pastor Nathaniel Bassey Day” in 2024.
