St. Louis rapper Nelly has been confirmed to join the lineup for the inauguration of Donald Trump, celebrating his term as the 47th President of the United States.
According to CBS News, Nelly, known for hits like “Country Grammar,” is scheduled to perform at the Inaugural Liberty Ball on January 20.
The event will feature a predominantly country music ensemble, including performances from “American Idol” victor Carrie Underwood, who will deliver a rendition of “America the Beautiful.”
Underwood expressed her enthusiasm about participating, telling NPR, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
The inauguration will also see classical tenor Christopher Macchio singing the national anthem during the swearing-in ceremony. Other artists set to perform include Lee Greenwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts, Parker McCollum, Gavin DeGraw, Liberty University’s Praise Choir, The Village People, and Kid Rock.
Among other notable appearances, the Mississippi Valley State University marching band, an HBCU ensemble, was invited but faced significant backlash after seeking donations to fund their trip via GoFundMe.
A notable absence from the event will be former First Lady Michelle Obama, continuing her precedent of not attending certain national ceremonies, as she did with President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama will attend, joined by other former Presidents and their spouses, including George W. Bush with Laura Bush, and Bill Clinton with Hillary Clinton.
