Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has made a significant political statement by donating $7 million to a super PAC supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. This donation, the largest single contribution Hastings has ever made to a candidate, was confirmed by a source close to him on Tuesday, following a report by The Information.
Reed Hastings’ donation comes as Harris solidifies her position as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election. On Monday, she secured the majority of Democratic delegates, prompting congratulations from Hastings. “Congrats to Kamala Harris — now it is time to win,” he posted on the social media platform X.
Reed Hastings had previously expressed his dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden following the president’s poor performance in the first debate. Earlier this month, he publicly voiced his frustrations, stating, “Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous,” in an interview with The New York Times.
On Sunday, President Biden announced that he would step aside from the 2024 race, endorsing Harris following pressure from congressional Democrats and major donors, including Hastings. This significant shift in the Democratic race led to a surge in fundraising for Harris, with her campaign raising $81 million within 24 hours of Biden’s exit—the highest single-day total for any candidate in the 2024 campaign.
As Harris prepares to face Republican candidate Donald Trump in November, Reed Hastings’ substantial financial support highlights the high stakes and intense mobilization efforts within the Democratic Party to secure a victory in the upcoming election.

“It’s time for us all to unite around Kamala Harris and beat Donald Trump. She is the best and most qualified candidate we have. Long live the American Dream!” Soros posted on X following President Biden’s announcement to step aside.
Melinda French Gates has also endorsed Harris, highlighting the vice president’s strong track record on supporting abortion rights.
In addition to these endorsements, Harris’ campaign is experiencing a significant boost in financial support. Within the first 24 hours of her campaign, she secured a record-breaking $81 million in donations.
