O.J. Simpson Estate Eyes Family Home to Settle Mounting Debts

The estate of the late NFL Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson is grappling with significant financial troubles, and it appears that the family home he co-purchased with his son, Justin Simpson, might be the key to resolving some of the debts.

The executor of Simpson’s estate is exploring ways to secure over a quarter of a million dollars, potentially through the sale of the Las Vegas property.Justin Simpson, one of O.J.’s two children with his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, played a significant role in acquiring the house in 2022.

Reports indicate that O.J. Simpson contributed $159,000 toward the purchase of the home, which the executor now believes has appreciated by $100,000.

Attorney Malcolm LaVergne, representing the estate, is focused on liquidating assets to address the pressing financial obligations, including a $269,000 debt linked to the property.

The situation becomes more complex as California has imposed a tax lien of $572,402.69 on the estate.

LaVergne has claimed that the estate is essentially devoid of liquid assets, with creditors including the IRS, the California Tax Board, and the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman all seeking compensation.

The Browns and Goldmans were awarded a $33.5 million judgment in a 1997 civil lawsuit, which, with interest, has now ballooned to an estimated $100 million.

In April, just days after O.J. Simpson’s death on April 10 due to prostate cancer at the age of 76, LaVergne met with Fred Goldman, father of Ron Goldman, at his Las Vegas office to discuss the estate’s finances.

Although representatives for Nicole Brown Simpson’s estate did not attend, Goldman’s attorneys were provided access to Simpson’s financial records, including tax returns, 401(K) accounts, and bank statements.

The meeting aimed to integrate the Goldmans into the estate’s payout structure to partially satisfy the enormous debt.O.J. Simpson, who gained fame as a running back for the Buffalo Bills, remains a controversial figure.

His 1995 acquittal in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, dubbed “the trial of the century,” left many questions unanswered.

While he was found not guilty in the criminal trial, a subsequent civil suit resulted in a significant financial judgment that Simpson never fully paid.
