Reggie Noble, better known as Redman, recently shared that a single verse he recorded earned him a massive check worth over $250,000.
In an interview with Red Bull Spiral, the rapper from New Jersey talked about his collaboration on Christina Aguilera’s 2002 hit song “Dirrty”. The song, featured on Aguilera’s Stripped album, was a major success and was even nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 2003 Grammy Awards.
One of His Favorite Project
Redman called the collaboration with Aguilera “one of” his “favorite collabs” and explained how it came to be.
“Christina is like one of my favorite collabs because I did a song called ‘Let’s Get Dirty’ featuring DJ Kool—what up, Uncle Kool? And she liked that, so they made an R&B-pop version of that record,” Redman said. “I got on the record, and after that, it took off. We were everywhere, bro. She brought me on tour, we went overseas.”
Redman also shared his excitement about receiving his first publishing check for “Dirrty.
“Oh my God! My publishing check? I couldn’t believe I got that much money for one verse,” he said. “It was over $250K, my first check.”
While he mistakenly referred to the album as Dirty instead of Stripped, Redman praised the experience, saying it gave him a glimpse into the world of pop music, which operates on a different scale than hip-hop.
“That album was one of her biggest albums. And I got to see how a pop artist moves through the industry—it’s another level than hip-hop,” he added.
