Trial for Keffe D's Alleged Role in Tupac Shakur's Death Postponed to 2026

A Nevada judge has rescheduled the trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, charged in connection with the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur, to February 9, 2026.

Originally slated for next month, the delay was ordered by Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny to allow for thorough preparation and ensure a fair trial, citing recent developments presented by Davis’s defense team.

Davis, a former gang member, has been in custody at the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest in September 2023. He has entered a not-guilty plea to first-degree murder charges.

“It looks like there are quite a few things that are left to be done to get this case prepared so that Mr. Davis can have effective assistance of counsel,” Judge Kierny told the defense attorneys and prosecutors during a short hearing.

The allegations stem from his supposed involvement in the drive-by shooting that led to Shakur’s death on September 13, 1996, six days after the incident following a Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas.

The postponement follows a defence motion for more time to conduct essential investigative work and interview key eyewitnesses. During a brief court hearing, Judge Kierny emphasized the need for Davis to receive effective legal assistance, which necessitates further preparation.

Prosecutors argue they have strong evidence against Davis, including self-incriminating statements in a book he published in 2019 and various interviews given to police and media since 2008.

The case continues to attract significant attention, given the high-profile nature of Tupac Shakur’s murder and the long-standing mysteries surrounding it. A status hearing is expected during the summer, where both parties will update the court on their progress.
