Trump Declines Second Presidential Debate with Harris

Donald Trump has ruled out a second debate with Kamala Harris, just hours after Fox News offered to host one later this month, ahead of the November 5 election. The former president and current Democratic vice president are in a close race for the White House and have only debated once in September. Despite rumors of another face-off, it now seems unlikely.
“It’s too late in the process, and voting has already started—there will be no rematch!” Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social. He also claimed, “Kamala said she wouldn’t do anything different from Joe Biden, so there’s no point in debating.”
Harris had challenged Trump to a debate on CNN set for October 23, but Trump declined. He also said Harris backed out of a previous Fox News debate, though her campaign never publicly accepted the offer.
“Kamala stated clearly, yesterday, that she would not do anything different than Joe Biden, so there is nothing to debate,” Trump added.
The two candidates debated once on ABC News on September 10, and their running mates, Republican J.D. Vance and Democrat Tim Walz, debated on October 1. Trump stated he had agreed to two more debates, one on Fox News on September 4 and one on NBC News on September 25, but Harris never committed.
While Harris’s team had shown interest in a second debate after their first received positive reviews, it never happened. On Wednesday, Fox News made a last attempt, offering two possible debate dates, October 24 or 27.
“This would give each candidate a final chance to make their case,” said Jay Wallace, president of Fox News Media, in a letter to both campaigns.
