President-elect Donald Trump has announced former congressman and Fox Business host Sean Duffy as his pick for transportation secretary, marking the second Fox personality tapped for a Cabinet position in Trump’s incoming administration.
In a statement on Monday, Trump praised Duffy’s qualifications, calling him “a tremendous and well-liked public servant.” Trump highlighted Duffy’s tenure as a Republican congressman from Wisconsin, where he served from 2011 to 2019, as evidence of his ability to lead the Department of Transportation.
“During his time in Congress, Sean was a respected voice and communicator in the Republican Conference, advocating for fiscal responsibility, economic growth, and rural development,” Trump said.
“He will use his experience to maintain and rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and fulfill our mission of ushering in the Golden Age of Travel, focusing on safety, efficiency, and innovation.”
Trump added that Duffy would “make our skies safe again” by eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs for pilots and air traffic controllers, emphasizing his administration’s focus on changes within the transportation sector.
Duffy responded to the nomination with a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Thank you, Mr. President. I’m eager to help you usher in a new golden age of transportation.”
A Senate Confirmation Awaits
Fox News Media confirmed Monday that Duffy was stepping down from his role as co-host of The Bottom Line. The network praised him for his contributions, stating he provided “valuable insights and analysis.”
Duffy, 53, brings a varied background to the role. Before serving in Congress, he was a special prosecutor and later the district attorney in Ashland County, Wisconsin. He also gained public attention in 1997 as a cast member on MTV’s The Real World: Boston and is married to Rachel Campos-Duffy, who appeared in The Real World: San Francisco.
The Department of Transportation, which oversees approximately 58,000 employees, will require Senate confirmation for Duffy’s appointment. If confirmed, Duffy would be tasked with managing critical infrastructure projects and addressing the challenges facing the nation’s transportation systems.
Duffy’s nomination follows Trump’s announcement last week of Fox News personality Pete Hegseth as his choice to lead the Department of Defense. Hegseth has since left Fox News.
The appointment underscores Trump’s continued preference for appointing individuals with strong media presences and loyalty to his vision as he shapes his second administration.
