Twenty-eight years after the death of Tupac Shakur on September 13, 1996, his hit single “How Do U Want It” has surged onto one of Billboard’s charts, propelled by its popularity on TikTok.
Released just months before his tragic demise, the track recently debuted at No. 16 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, a chart that ranks tracks based on their popularity and usage on the social media platform.
The single, which features K-Ci & JoJo of the R&B group Jodeci, originally appeared on the B-side of “California Love” from the album “All Eyez On Me,” both of which topped the Billboard Hot 100 that year.
Despite his murder nearly three decades ago, the case surrounding Tupac’s death may soon see significant developments. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a former gang member implicated in the killing, is scheduled to stand trial on March 17, 2025.
Arrested on September 29, 2023, in Henderson, Nevada, Davis faces charges of first-degree murder. After police searched his home in July 2023, he was taken into custody and is currently held at the Clark County Detention Center. If convicted, Davis could receive a life sentence.
Tupac was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, shortly after attending a Mike Tyson boxing match on September 7, 1996. The renowned and often controversial rapper succumbed to his injuries six days later at the age of 25.
Over the years, Davis has suggested in interviews and his book “Compton Street Legend” that his nephew, Orlando Anderson, was the actual gunman. Anderson himself was killed two years after Tupac’s death.
