Filmmaker Tyler Perry shared a special video on Instagram on February 5 to celebrate Black History Month. This video highlights the achievements of Black women, including Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.
Along with Meghan, other famous women like Nina Simone, Oprah Winfrey, and Tracee Ellis Ross are also featured.
The video is set to a new song called “BLKWMN” by Ledisi, which will be released on February 21. The video shows important black-and-white photos of Black women and important events in the Black community that honor their contributions over the years.
Meghan Markle’s photo in the video was originally used for her Archetypes podcast. In this tribute, she is recognized for her work in supporting diversity and speaking up for Black women in places where they are often underrepresented.
Tyler Perry and Meghan Markle became friends in 2018 after Meghan married Prince Harry.
Perry helped Meghan and Harry when they moved to the United States, even letting them stay in his nearly $20 million home when they left their royal duties in 2020. Meghan and Harry also attended Perry’s 55th birthday party.
This video by Perry not only celebrates Black History Month but also shows the important roles that Black women like Meghan Markle play in making a difference today.
