Victoria’s Secret Hires Savage X Fenty CEO Hillary Super with $18 Million Deal

Victoria’s Secret has hired Hillary Super, the former CEO of Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty lingerie brand, with a compensation package worth over $18 million. Super will officially start her role as CEO on September 9, according to a report by The Star on August 14.

Victoria’s Secret chairwoman, Donna James, said in a press release that Super’s leadership will help guide the company’s next phase, with a focus on growing its North American business. “We are impressed with her leadership and ability to create value,” James added.

Super’s deal includes a base salary of $1.2 million, a $1 million signing bonus, and an annual cash bonus between $2.1 million and $2.4 million. She will also receive equity in the company, including a one-time stock award of $5.75 million that will vest over three years and an additional equity grant worth $7.7 million in 2025.

In total, her compensation package exceeds $18 million. Super will work both remotely and from the office, relocating from Los Angeles to New York City while making frequent trips to the company’s headquarters in Ohio.

Super replaces Martin Waters, who became CEO when Victoria’s Secret split from its former parent company, L Brands, in 2021. Under Waters, the brand attempted to rebrand itself as more inclusive, moving away from its “supermodel” image, but inconsistent marketing efforts made this difficult.

In January 2023, Victoria’s Secret acquired the direct-to-consumer lingerie brand Adore Me for $400 million. Adore Me is known for its inclusive approach and online-only model, which brought in $250 million in revenue in 2022. However, analysts say this acquisition hasn’t yet made a noticeable impact on Victoria’s Secret’s performance.

Many hope that having a woman as CEO for the first time will help Victoria’s Secret compete with brands like ThirdLove, Savage X Fenty, Skims, and Lively—all of which are either led or founded by women.

Super’s experience at Savage X Fenty, a brand known for embracing diversity and redefining what “sexy” means for people of all sizes, could be exactly what Victoria’s Secret needs to achieve its new vision.
