Why the US Must Get Ready for a Nuclear EMP Attack

Historian and author William Forstchen recently spoke about how a nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) strike could seriously harm the U.S.
He explained that such an attack could shut down the country’s power grid, communications, and transportation for a long time, putting national safety at risk.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Forstchen said that an EMP happens when a nuclear bomb explodes in space. This explosion sends out energy that can overload and break the power grid below.
Reports from Congress in 2002 and 2008 suggest that if an EMP attack occurred, up to 90% of Americans might die within a year because everything necessary for survival would stop working.
Forstchen pointed out that the threat of EMPs has been known since the Cold War. He mentioned a nuclear test in 1962, called Starfish Prime, that caused electrical issues far from the explosion site. Although they fixed those problems quickly, a similar event today could take much longer to repair.
Former President Donald Trump took this threat seriously during his presidency. He ordered studies to find ways to protect the country from such attacks. Forstchen believes the U.S. needs to update its old electrical grid and create a defense system like Israel’s Iron Dome to protect against missiles.
He also suggested that Americans should get ready by storing necessary supplies to be prepared for emergencies.
Forstchen’s discussion highlights the serious threat of EMP attacks and the need for the country and its people to be ready for any possible dangers.
