Yara Shahidi is set to appear in Catherine Hardwicke’s new indie film, “Street Smart,” alongside Sylvester Powell, Michael Cimino, and other notable actors including pro skateboarder Isiah Hilt, Isabelle Fuhrman, Daniel Zovatto, Kaitlyn Kemp, and Miles McKenna.
The movie, as described by Deadline, centers on a group of young unhoused adults in Los Angeles who, despite their tough circumstances, find laughter and camaraderie in a life of Robin Hood-esque thievery, creating their own unique family bonds.
The film aims to do more than entertain; it has a charitable angle, partnering with organizations like Covenant House and Safe Place for Youth to give back to the community it portrays.

‘Who come together with humor and a bit of Robin Hood-style larceny, forging unbreakable bonds and redefining what it means to be a family.”
“In the wake of the recent tragedies that have profoundly impacted Los Angeles and the Hollywood community, we feel incredibly fortunate to be working in LA. We’re working together with a crazy cool group of actors and filmmakers to make an intensive, provocative and joyful film.”
Catherine Hardwicke, known for her dynamic storytelling, shared her enthusiasm for working with a talented cast in Los Angeles, especially following the recent challenges the city has faced, including the wildfires.
“Street Smart” is being produced by a team including Gerard Butler and Natalie Marciano, among others, with Hardwicke also taking on a producing role. Several cast members, such as Fuhrman and Zovatto, are also involved as executive producers, contributing to the creative and financial aspects of the project.
Additionally, Shahidi continues to expand her acting repertoire as she is also gearing up for a role in the coming-of-age film “Bloom,” featuring alongside Kedar Williams-Stirling, Keith Powers, and Renée Elise Goldsberry. This film, like “Street Smart,” promises to deliver engaging narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
