Angel Reese Nears Suspension as Technical Fouls Pile Up in WNBA Rookie Campaign

Chicago Sky centre Angel Reese is making headlines not just for her dominance on the court, but for her growing list of technical fouls that could soon earn her a suspension.
According to Fox News, the WNBA sophomore is one technical foul away from hitting the league’s automatic suspension threshold of eight. Through just 22 games this season, Reese has already been whistled for seven technicals—averaging one every three games—positioning her as the current leader in the league for tech calls.
The most recent infraction came during a blowout loss to the Minnesota Lynx. While the specific incident wasn’t captured on camera, the foul was assessed just moments after Reese was fouled herself. It’s suspected that an exchange with the referee may have triggered the call.
No WNBA player has yet been suspended this season due to an accumulation of technical fouls. If Reese picks up one more, she will be the first.
Reese’s aggressive and emotional style has drawn comparisons to NBA veteran Draymond Green, who is well-known for his passionate play—and for walking a fine line with officials. Her intensity has been a double-edged sword, powering her impressive performances while also drawing frequent whistles.
xcvSo far this season, Reese has picked up techs against a string of opponents: her first came in the season opener against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, followed by another against the New York Liberty on May 22.
Subsequent fouls occurred during games with the Dallas Wings (May 31), Connecticut Sun (June 15), Los Angeles Sparks (June 29), and Washington Mystics (July 8).
Still, the 22-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down statistically. Despite the team’s struggles, she logged another double-double in the Lynx matchup—posting 11 points and 11 rebounds—her tenth consecutive game with double-digit stats in two categories. She also turned the ball over nine times, narrowly missing what would have been a rare triple-double.
Off the court, Reese has also made waves by trademarking the phrase “Mebounds,” a nod to criticism of her rebounding dominance. She’s parlayed the moment into a sneaker line and burgeoning brand, showing that her impact goes far beyond the paint.
