Hamas Poised to Back Trump’s Gaza Cease-Fire Proposal

Hamas and other Palestinian factions are leaning toward accepting President Donald Trump’s new proposal to halt the war in Gaza and are expected to deliver a formal response to Egyptian and Qatari mediators on Wednesday, a source close to the talks told CBS News.

Unveiled at the White House on Monday alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the U.S. plan lays out 20 points that would trigger a swift ceasefire, the return of all remaining hostages within 72 hours of Israel’s public acceptance, reciprocal releases of Palestinian prisoners, a surge in humanitarian aid, and a transition to an interim administration of Palestinian technocrats.

Oversight would rest with an international “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump and including former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair. Israel would retain perimeter security during the transition.

Israel has publicly backed the framework; Hamas has not yet agreed, and Trump has given the group “three or four days” to respond. Netanyahu signaled Israeli forces would remain in key areas until hostages are released.

Initial diplomatic reaction has been mixed. A number of Muslim-majority states welcomed the effort, while critics questioned Blair’s role and the plan’s feasibility.

The Palestinian Authority voiced support for a U.S.-led path to peace while noting elections and internal reforms ahead, and the U.N. human rights chief said any credible route to a ceasefire and hostage release is “welcome.”

Key unresolved questions include Hamas’s final position on disarmament and governance, the scope and mandate of any international stabilization force, and the pace of Israeli withdrawal from Gaza if the plan advances. For now, mediators in Cairo and Doha are preparing for the expected response as Washington insists the window for agreement is short.
