Kai Cenat’s Record-Breaking ‘Mafiathon 3’ Puts $5M Nigeria School Project Back in Focus

Twitch star Kai Cenat has set a new platform benchmark and renewed attention on his pledge to build a $5 million school in Nigeria.

During Mafiathon 3, a month-long subathon, Cenat became the first creator to surpass 1 million active subscribers—a milestone reached on day 27 of the continuous stream. He marked the achievement by reiterating that 15% of event revenue will go toward constructing a school near Lagos.

Pausing the broadcast for an update, Cenat said the project has shifted from the Makoko waterfront to Yaba, Lagos, citing logistical constraints. Project consultants Fanny Moral and Chinedum Umeche said the build is expected to take at least two years, with legal and education partners Banwo & Ighodalo and Enko Education engaged to maintain momentum.

Cenat also addressed questions about timelines and oversight, noting he has formed Kai Cenat Foundation Inc. to manage finances and safeguard funds. On stream, he outlined the roadblocks—securing land, government authorization, construction, staffing, and accreditation—while expressing gratitude for the scale of support: “If I didn’t have Jesus in my life, none of this would be possible… to do this a third time is crazy.”

The 1-million-plus subscriber figure eclipses Cenat’s own previous records (he topped 700,000 during Mafiathon 2) and cements his channel as the most-subscribed in Twitch history. With the pledge public and funding pipeline defined, attention now turns to how quickly—and transparently—the Lagos school takes shape.
