Michael Archer II, the only child of D’Angelo and the late Angie Stone, has issued a public message of thanks and resilience following his father’s death on 14 October 2025. D’Angelo, born Michael Eugene Archer, died at 51 after what the family called a “prolonged and courageous battle with cancer.”

Multiple outlets have reported the illness as pancreatic cancer.

In a statement shared the day his father died, the 27-year-old—who performs as Swayvo Train—thanked fans for their support. “It has been a very rough and sad year for me… one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that,” he said, asking the public to keep him in their thoughts.

People close to the family said D’Angelo had been hospitalized for months and spent two weeks in hospice before his death in New York.

Archer II’s message comes just seven months after the death of his mother, Angie Stone, 63, who was killed in March 2025 in a crash in Alabama after a performance. Her family has since filed a wrongful-death lawsuit, alleging she initially survived the wreck but was struck by a tractor-trailer while attempting to exit the overturned van.

D’Angelo’s family and estate announced his passing with a tribute to his artistic legacy: “The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life… we are heartbroken,” they said, adding gratitude for the “extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind.”

The neo-soul pioneer—whose albums Brown Sugar (1995), Voodoo (2000) and Black Messiah (2014) reshaped modern R&B—had a complicated relationship with fame but remained a towering influence across generations of musicians. Tributes from artists and fans have poured in since Tuesday

New York Attorney General Letitia James was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, on charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution tied to a mortgage application for a Virginia property.

Letitia James, 66, a Democrat who previously led a high-profile civil fraud case against Donald Trump, called the prosecution politically motivated and vowed to fight the charges.

The indictment was pursued by Lindsey Halligan, the newly appointed U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and a Trump ally, who personally presented the case to the grand jury after her predecessor resigned.

Vindictive prosecution

Critics within and outside the Justice Department have raised concerns about the appearance of politicization surrounding the charging decisions. James is expected to be arraigned on October 24.

The case arrives as part of a broader wave of actions against figures long targeted by Trump. Former FBI director James Comey pleaded not guilty this week to charges of making false statements to Congress and obstructing a congressional proceeding; his trial is set for January 5, and his legal team has signaled a motion to dismiss on grounds of vindictive or selective prosecution.

James’ prior civil suit against Trump resulted in a sweeping fraud judgment in New York state court. While an appeals court later removed the hundreds-of-millions financial penalty, it left the underlying liability intact, a backdrop that has intensified scrutiny of the new criminal case and the Justice Department’s independence.

The mortgage case centers on whether Letitia James misrepresented her intended use of a Norfolk-area property — a factor that can affect loan terms — and whether statements on her application constituted criminal falsehoods. Prosecutors allege the misstatements saved her money; James’ camp rejects the allegations and frames the prosecution as part of a retaliatory campaign.

If convicted, Letitia James could face significant penalties under federal banking statutes. The Justice Department and the New York attorney general’s office declined to comment beyond public statements, while legal analysts say early litigation will likely focus on discovery of internal decision-making and whether political pressure influenced charging

The Los Angeles Police Department has withdrawn specialized protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, following controversy over reallocating officers from crime suppression duties to safeguard her after Donald Trump suspended her Secret Service detail.

When Trump revoked federal protections for Harris—a break from the standard extensions occasionally granted to high-profile political figures—the California Highway Patrol stepped in to provide coverage. LAPD’s Metropolitan Division also temporarily deployed specialized units to assist, a move first reported by ABC7.

But the decision drew swift criticism. Critics argued that diverting officers from frontline neighborhood patrols undermined public safety. According to the Los Angeles Times, even within the LAPD, there were concerns about stripping officers from existing assignments.

Mayor Karen Bass, who initially approved the temporary support, announced a reversal under mounting scrutiny. “The plan was always to provide temporary support and I thank LAPD for protecting former VP Harris and always prioritizing the safety of all Angelenos,” Bass said in a September 6 statement.

The episode underscores the political sensitivities surrounding protective details. Before leaving office, President Joe Biden had extended Harris’ Secret Service protection past the usual six months granted to former vice presidents, citing credible death threats as she pursued her presidential campaign.

Trump, however, has repeatedly rolled back protections for political rivals, including former health official Anthony Fauci, according to Axios.

The decision also sparked heated commentary from the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union representing LAPD officers. In a sharply worded statement, the union dismissed Harris as a “multi-millionaire failed presidential candidate” and praised the redeployment of officers back to their crime suppression posts as “common sense.”

“Every now and then common-sense prevails and we are happy to report that the Metro officers assigned to protect the multi-millionaire failed presidential candidate are back on the street fighting crime,” the union said, adding with sarcasm that Harris could “start a GoFundMe campaign instead of mooching off Los Angeles taxpayers.”

For now, Harris remains under the protection of state authorities, with the CHP taking the lead in ensuring her safety. But the controversy has reignited debate over the balance between protecting high-profile political figures and maintaining police resources for local communities.

The U.S. Open has once again transformed New York into tennis’ biggest stage, but this year, the spotlight shines even brighter on Black women athletes who are redefining the game, and the culture around it.

On September 1, fans will witness a much-anticipated matchup as Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff, both former champions and fierce competitors, face off once again. The clash comes during the tournament’s two-week celebration of Althea Gibson’s trailblazing legacy, marking 75 years since she broke tennis’ color barriers.

Gibson’s alma mater, Florida A&M University, honored her with a rousing marching band performance, while Venus Williams narrated short films that paid tribute to Gibson’s historic journey.

Gibson’s influence is clear in the growing roster of Black women on court: Gauff, Osaka, Taylor Townsend, and the Williams sisters have all carried forward her legacy. This new generation is not only winning matches—they are pushing back against the sexism and racism that have long shadowed the sport.

Townsend recently drew headlines after calling out Jelena Ostapenko’s offensive post-match remarks. Osaka backed her, condemning the comments as “one of the worst” things one could say to a Black player. Their unity underscored the solidarity that defines Black women in tennis today.

The tournament has also captured heartwarming crossover moments. Cameras spotted Gauff and gymnastics icon Simone Biles exchanging words of encouragement, each celebrating the other’s dominance in their respective fields.

Fashion and culture remain part of the story too. Venus Williams, competing in doubles, turned heads with her custom ERL outfit and fur racket bag, proving once again that her impact extends beyond the baseline.

Still, all eyes are on the Round 4 showdown between Gauff and Osaka. It will be their first U.S. Open meeting since 2019, and while both are determined to advance, they remain supportive rivals—symbols of a new era in tennis that thrives on mutual respect, cultural pride, and unapologetic Black excellence.

When the Dallas Cowboys pulled off the blockbuster trade for Micah Parsons in August 2025, one name in the deal carried both weight and experience, Kenny Clark.

For nearly a decade, Clark was the backbone of the Green Bay Packers’ defensive line, a three-time Pro Bowler whose consistency and quiet leadership made him one of the most respected tackles in the NFL.

Early Years and College Foundation

Born on October 4, 1995, in San Bernardino, California, Kenneth Duane Clark Jr. was raised in a working-class household where discipline and perseverance defined his path. At Carter High School in Rialto, California, he became a dominant defensive presence, racking up 71 tackles and 11 sacks his senior year.

His performances earned him four-star recruit status and offers from top football programs.

Kenny Clark chose UCLA, where he developed into one of the most reliable defensive linemen in the Pac-12. By his junior year, he had notched 75 tackles and six sacks, cementing his reputation as a disruptive interior force ready for the next level.

Green Bay Packers Anchor

In the 2016 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected Kenny Clark 27th overall in the first round. At 6-foot-3 and over 310 pounds, he quickly showed the blend of size, leverage, and agility that separates good defensive tackles from great ones.

Over nine seasons in Green Bay, Kenny Clark became synonymous with stability. He started more than 120 games, posting 417 tackles, 35 sacks, eight fumble recoveries, and seven forced fumbles. Beyond the numbers, his leadership in the locker room made him a steadying voice during the team’s highs and lows.

His peak years earned him Pro Bowl selections in 2019, 2021, and 2023, and he was frequently described by coaches as “the quiet heartbeat” of the Packers’ defensive unit.

The Cowboys Era Begins

On August 28, 2025, Clark’s career took a dramatic turn when he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons. The deal stunned the league, but it also underscored Clark’s value. For the Cowboys, he represents veteran leadership and proven productivity at the heart of their defensive line.

His arrival in Dallas has already sparked optimism. Cowboys analysts note his ability to command double teams, free up edge rushers, and steady the defense against the run—skills that remain as critical in his 30s as they were when he entered the league.

The Nevis Tourism Authority (NTA) has named Andia Ravariere as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective September 1, bringing over a decade of experience in sustainable tourism development and destination marketing across the Caribbean.

Premier of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley, welcomed the appointment, describing Ravariere as the right leader to drive the island’s next phase of growth. “Her proven track record in sustainable tourism and her deep understanding of Caribbean destination marketing make her uniquely qualified to guide Nevis into its next chapter,” he said.

“As we continue to position Nevis as a beacon of barefoot luxury and authentic Caribbean culture, I am confident her leadership will expand our reach, strengthen our community, and deliver a world-class tourism product.”

Ravariere previously spent seven years with the Ministry of Tourism in Anguilla, where she played a key role in the island’s post-pandemic rebound. Most recently, she served as Destination Marketing Manager for the Discover Dominica Authority, where she spearheaded campaigns that boosted arrivals and tapped into niche visitor markets.

Pamela Martin, chairperson of the NTA board, said Ravariere’s background aligns closely with the authority’s goals. “Her experience in guiding destinations through both growth and recovery, along with her passion for community-driven tourism, perfectly aligns with our vision for Nevis,” Martin noted.

“We look forward to building on our momentum and ensuring Nevis continues to stand out as one of the Caribbean’s most unique and sustainable destinations.”

Sustainability has been a hallmark of Ravariere’s career. In 2013, she founded the Colihaut Community Tourism Development group in Dominica, which launched the Colihaut Fish Lime event. The initiative boosted local industries, created opportunities for women entrepreneurs, and left a lasting economic impact on the community.

Speaking on her appointment, Ravariere said she intends to strategically redefine luxury tourism in Nevis through a focus on nature, culture, sustainability, and innovation.

“My vision is to position Nevis at the forefront of Caribbean tourism,” she said. “This means delivering world-class experiences to discerning travelers while empowering our people and safeguarding the island’s heritage.
