Killer Mike Launches Rent-to-Own Housing Plan to Help Atlanta Families Build Wealth and Own Homes

Grammy-winning artist and community advocate Killer Mike has announced a groundbreaking rent-to-own housing initiative that could change homeownership options throughout metro Atlanta. The program, called Build-to-Ownership (B2O), is a partnership led by Killer Mike (Michael Render), Bridge Tower Group, and Blackmon Real Estate. It aims to help more families move from long-term renting to meaningful homeownership.
At a time when housing affordability and building generational wealth are key issues in local policies and economic justice discussions, the B2O initiative stands out as a practical and scalable solution. Under this program, residents will lease newly constructed homes with a clear option to buy them later. This approach allows families to build equity while living in their communities.
“This initiative is about bringing homeownership within reach for people who crave the stability that ownership offers,” Render said in a statement, as reported Grio. “This will ultimately create stronger communities. It will also help families build wealth.”
Render’s focus on ownership as a basis for prosperity mirrors a larger trend in Atlanta’s housing scene. The city has been working to expand homeownership support. This include increased down-payment assistance to help voucher holders move into ownership, in the face of rising housing costs and displacement challenges.
“Wealth is defined by the ability to own land,” Render added, highlighting the initiative’s goal to ensure longtime residents, especially in historically Black neighborhoods, have a real stake in Atlanta’s future growth.
The rollout of B2O will happen in phases, with initial property acquisitions focused on high-growth areas near transit, jobs, and retail centers. Partners expect to announce the first properties in the coming months.
Atlanta’s housing landscape is changing quickly. Public agencies are expanding assistance while nonprofits and private ventures are innovating ownership pathways. The Build-to-Ownership initiative supports these efforts by combining market-driven development with community-focused impact. Advocates believe this approach could help close systemic wealth gaps and stabilize neighborhoods in the long run.
