Drake, the multi-platinum rapper, entrepreneur, and cultural icon, is reportedly in talks to sell a 50 percent stake in his OVO brand to Authentic Brands Group. If completed, this deal would be one of the biggest milestones in Drake’s career and mark a new phase of growth for the Toronto-born creator’s lifestyle brand.

From Music Mogul to Global Fashion Power

Drake (Aubrey Graham) has risen beyond his beginnings as a chart-topping artist to become a diverse business leader. Aside from his musical success, with record-breaking sales, streaming achievements, and influence across genres, Drake has broadened his business reach through ventures such as OVO Sound, his record label; DreamCrew, his entertainment group; and Better World, his fragrance line.

No venture represents Drake’s cultural impact more than OVO, which stands for October’s Very Own. It began as an extension of his personal brand and has turned into a genuine lifestyle and apparel business. With flagship stores in Toronto, New York, London, and Los Angeles, along with partnerships in the NBA, NHL, and major streetwear brands, OVO has become a key player in artist-led brand success in the 21st century.

The Authentic Brands Group Opportunity

According to reports, Drake and his team are in ongoing discussions with Authentic Brands Group (ABG), the New York-based brand management and licensing giant behind well-known names such as Reebok, Champion, Sports Illustrated, and the estates of cultural icons like Muhammad Ali and Elvis Presley.

ABG’s portfolio and expertise in global licensing make it a valuable partner for brands ready to grow beyond their current limits. Experts believe a partnership between OVO and ABG could open new retail distribution channels, improve product variety, and boost international market reach.

Cultural and Commercial Implications

If finalized, the deal would mark a significant change not just for OVO as a business but for artist-driven brands as a whole. Analysts compare it to Rihanna’s successful partnership with luxury group LVMH for her Fenty brands, where strategic equity sales have enhanced both resources and global reach.

A 50 percent sale is a structure that balances founder control and strategic partnership. It would allow Drake to maintain significant influence over OVO’s creative direction while utilizing Authentic’s licensing framework to explore new markets and consumer categories.

For Drake, this move fits into a long-term vision of building lasting assets. It continues his careful expansion from music into fashion, sports, and entertainment. As one brand strategist noted on social media, the reported deal is about turning OVO into a true global consumer brand, not just a label with celebrity appeal.

A New Chapter for OVO

OVO’s rise has been marked by smart partnerships and cultural relevance. From limited-edition releases that sell out in minutes to runway collaborations that merge streetwear and luxury styles, the brand has built strong loyalty among consumers around the world.

Under a possible ABG partnership, sources suggest the strategy would focus on maintaining that authenticity while growing operations, potentially branching OVO into footwear, accessories, licensing deals across media, and improved global retail experiences.

Canadian rap superstar Drake surprised the global music scene on Friday by releasing three major projects at once. This included the long-awaited Iceman and two surprise albums, Habibti and Maid of Honour. The unexpected launch quickly took social media by storm and marked one of the boldest album release strategies of 2026.

For months, excitement around Iceman had been growing through cryptic livestreams, promotional events in Toronto, and a mysterious ice sculpture campaign that announced the release date. The launch reignited discussions about Drake’s cultural impact following his high-profile feud with Kendrick Lamar in 2024.

Reports from Yahoo Entertainment and other outlets said Drake used the Iceman era to reaffirm his creative power and business goals. He reportedly expanded the release into a triple-project drop with distinct musical styles and artistic themes. Iceman came with imagery inspired by a glittering glove related to pop icon Michael Jackson. In contrast, Habibti embraced darker international influences, while Maid of Honour featured deeply personal artwork linked to Drake’s family history.

Music critics and industry analysts called this release a key moment in Drake’s career. The Associated Press pointed out that Iceman appears at “the most pivotal moment” in the rapper’s journey, especially after concerns arose about his position in hip-hop following Lamar’s Grammy-winning diss track “Not Like Us.”

The Spotify streaming platform has seen a slowdown in rap music over the past two years, making Drake’s comeback one of the most anticipated events in 2026. Industry reports noted that he remains among the world’s most-streamed artists, despite criticism from recent controversies.

Drake’s promotional campaign turned into a major event. Fans gathered in downtown Toronto weeks before the album’s release after a large ice installation appeared publicly. Some even tried to break into the sculpture for hidden clues about the album. This spectacle further added to the intrigue surrounding Iceman.

Sidney “Omen” Brown, the Harlem-born producer and DJ whose credits span Beyoncé, Drake, Ludacris and Usher, has died at 49.

Brown was found dead Sept. 13 in his East Harlem apartment by a family member who went to check on him after he missed a longstanding DJ set at Barawine Harlem, his mother said.

His family described the loss as a shock, noting he appeared healthy. “He was holistic and healthy…so this is all pretty sudden,” his sister, Nicole Iris Brown, said.

A sought-after sound across hip-hop and R&B

Known professionally as Omen, Brown came up in New York’s rap scene and affiliated with the Roc-A-Fella circle as his profile rose.

He earned producer, programmer, lyricist and composer credits on Beyoncé and Drake’s 2013 collaboration “Mine,” and worked with stars including Usher, Ludacris, Lil Wayne and Action Bronson.

Omen won a Grammy for producing “Tell It Like It Is” on Ludacris’ Release Therapy, which took home Best Rap Album at the 2007 ceremony.

Champion of the next generation

Beyond studio work, Brown was a fixture in New York nightlife, spinning regularly for more than a decade at Barawine Harlem. The venue paid tribute, saying he “brought his unique talent to all,” and extended condolences to his family, friends and fans.

His sister remembered him as a mentor who opened doors for emerging artists. “He was always big on helping younger people start their careers and get themselves into the game. It was about the music, no matter who the artist was.”

Funeral arrangements were not immediately available.

Drake’s legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG) has taken a fresh turn, with the rapper’s attorneys requesting detailed records relating to his long-time rival, Kendrick Lamar.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Canadian artist’s legal team has filed a motion seeking Kendrick Lamar’s contract with UMG, alongside any documentation connected to alleged incidents of domestic violence or other crimes purportedly committed by the Compton-born rapper.

The request forms part of the discovery process in Drake’s defamation lawsuit against the label.

Drake alleges that UMG facilitated and amplified defamatory claims, including suggestions in Kendrick Lamar’s hit single Not Like Us that the OVO Sound founder is a pedophile, damaging his reputation during ongoing contract negotiations.

He further claims the label offered reduced licensing rates for the track to boost its reach and undermine his market value.

After receiving a 22-page copy of Lamar’s contract from UMG in a previous court session, Drake’s lawyers complained that extensive redactions rendered the document “virtually unreadable and incomprehensible.” The rapper is seeking unredacted terms to determine whether UMG was deliberately undervaluing him in renewal talks.

UMG has resisted calls to include CEO Lucian Grainge in the discovery process, arguing that he had “no meaningful involvement” in the matters under dispute. The company has previously attempted to have the lawsuit dismissed, describing it as an outcome of “a rap battle that [Drake] provoked and in which he willingly participated.”

The court has yet to decide whether Drake’s discovery demands will be granted.

Toronto-born superstar Drake has etched his name into the music history books once again, becoming the first artist ever to earn 10 Diamond-certified singles, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The milestone was officially announced on May 28, with the RIAA celebrating the Grammy-winning rapper’s dominance in digital music sales.

The distinction marks 10 million units sold per single, and Drake now stands alone at the top, surpassing Garth Brooks and Post Malone, who each hold nine Diamond records.

The Songs That Made History

Drake’s latest additions to the Diamond club are fan favorites:

“Hold On, We’re Going Home” (2013)

“Best I Ever Had” (2009)

These tracks join his already impressive roster of 10-million sellers, which includes:

“God’s Plan”

“Hotline Bling”

“One Dance”

“Life Is Good” (with Future)

“Love Me” (with Lil Wayne)

“SICKO MODE” (with Travis Scott)

“No Guidance” (with Chris Brown)

“Work” (with Rihanna)

“Drake has the most RIAA Diamond Certifications of any artist, ever,” the association declared via Instagram, accompanied by a visual of his 10 Diamond plaques.

Drake could soon make it 11. His 2018 anthem “Nice for What”, off the chart-topping album Scorpion, is currently sitting at 9x Platinum, inching closer to Diamond status.

This latest record cements Drake as a trailblazer in hip-hop and pop music, with achievements that stretch far beyond sales alone. Since releasing his debut album Thank Me Later in 2010, every studio project he’s put out has reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

His 2016 album Views ruled the charts for 13 consecutive weeks, while 2021’s Certified Lover Boy made history with nine Top 10 singles, the most ever from one album.

Even in 2025, the momentum hasn’t slowed. His latest collaborative project, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U with PARTYNEXTDOOR, dropped in February and still has two tracks climbing the Billboard Hot 100:

“Nokia” at No. 12

“Somebody Loves Me” at No. 77
