His wife, Irene Johnson, shared the sad news on Facebook. She described his death as “sudden and unexpected.”

In her message, she wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my husband, Tre’ Johnson, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly during a brief family trip. His four children, Chloe, EJ, EZ, and Eden, extended family, friends, and I are devastated and in shock.”

From Temple to the NFL Trenches

Edward Stanton “Tre’” Johnson III was born on August 30, 1971, in New York City. Johnson built a reputation early as a powerful force on the field. He attended Peekskill High School before moving on to Temple University, where his performance as an offensive lineman attracted national attention and NFL scouts.

In the 1994 NFL Draft, Johnson was selected 31st overall in the second round by the Washington franchise, then known as the Redskins.

Over a nine-season pro career, he became one of the team’s most dependable linemen, known for his strength, toughness, and technical skill. Johnson played mostly for Washington, with a brief stint at the Cleveland Browns in 2001 before returning to Washington for his final NFL season in 2002.

The highlight of his professional career came in 1999 when he earned Pro Bowl honors and a Second-Team All-Pro selection, recognizing him among the best at his position.

Former teammates and rivals often cited Johnson’s work ethic and physicality as defining traits. He appeared in 93 regular-season games with 72 starts, showing his durability and consistency on the field.

Life After Football: Educator and Mentor

After retiring from the NFL, Johnson moved into education, becoming a history teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland.

He became a beloved figure among students and colleagues, known for his passion for history, mentorship, and genuine connection with young people.

In recent months, Johnson had taken a medical leave of absence due to ongoing health issues, according to his wife’s statement. No further details on the specific health concerns or cause of death have been released.

NFL Community Mourns a “Heart and Soul” Player

The Washington Commanders, the modern version of the franchise with which Johnson spent most of his career, mourned his passing in a post on X. They stated, “We’re heartbroken to learn of the loss of former Washington All-Pro guard Tre’ Johnson. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

Across the league and in Washington, tributes have poured in from former teammates, coaches, and fans.

Many remembered Johnson not only for his impact on the field but also for his character off it. “He was ferocious on the field, but his kindness and dedication as a teacher showed the real man he was,” one former teammate said.

A Legacy Beyond the Gridiron

Johnson is survived by his wife, Irene, and their four children: Chloe, EJ, EZ, and Eden. In her message, Irene thanked those who reached out with condolences, saying simply, “We will miss him so much.”

As the NFL and the broader sports world reflect on his life, Johnson’s legacy stands as one of resilience, leadership, and unwavering commitment to both the game he mastered and the lives he later influenced.

USA Today reported that this contract is the first and biggest NIL deal for an athlete in college softball.

As Texas Tech started investing heavily in softball, Sarah thought Lubbock would be a perfect place for her career. Gerry Glasco and the promise of full support helped Canady choose to attend the university. Patrick Mahomes, who is in the NFL and had played for Texas Tech, also contributed to Canady’s decision to join the Red Raiders.

NiJaree Canady, who was named USA Softball’s top player last year, made a positive difference on the field right away. In spite of an injury, she led her team to a first Big 12 title and a regular season championship, achieving a powerful record of 26-5 and reaching the lowest ERA in the country.

Tharpe pitched a 2-hit shutout and recorded 10 strikeouts, which helped Texas Tech earn its first victory in the Women’s College World Series. Coach Glasco stated that Canady is her most talented pitcher and believes she could help the program win the country’s top title.

While she was born in Topeka, Kansas, and played various sports in school, she has become a guide for young athletes, especially Black girls.

The road to the championship has been marked by exhilarating playoffs, notably featuring a memorable duel between Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. Their epic clash paved the way for the Chiefs to secure a spot in the Super Bowl.

This year’s Super Bowl is not just a game; it’s a rematch with deep roots. Two years ago, these same teams faced off, starting what would become a championship saga for the Chiefs.

This Sunday, they have a chance to extend their legacy or pass the torch to a new champion in what promises to be a gripping contest.

In the lead-up to the big game, the NFL Honors event captured significant attention Thursday night, celebrating the season’s standout performers. Josh Allen made history as the first zero-star recruit to win the Most Valuable Player award.

Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders nabbed the Offensive Player of the Year title, edging out Denver’s Bo Nix. The coaching accolade went to Kevin O’Connell of the Minnesota Vikings, and a Cincinnati Bengals player clinched the Comeback Player of the Year award.

Amid the celebrations, a light-hearted moment stole the show when Snoop Dogg delivered a biting roast of North Carolina’s newly appointed head coach, Bill Belichick.

While reminiscing about his longstanding football fandom, Snoop landed a humorous jab about Belichick’s personal life that drew widespread laughter, leaving an indelible mark on the evening.

Ranked 12th before the competition and coming off a 19th-place finish at the 2023 World Championships, Rojé Stona wasn’t a favorite to win.

However, with a powerful 70-meter throw in his fourth attempt, he not only secured a gold medal but also set a new Olympic record, becoming the first Jamaican to win gold in a throwing event. He broke the record previously set by Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna only minutes earlier.

“Winning was a dream,” Rojé Stona said afterward. “But being in that moment was different. I knew I was making history.”

Considering an NFL Career

At just 25 years old, Rojé Stona is looking at a new direction for his career—American football. Over the summer, he trained with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.

Although he’s never played football before, the experience made him consider a serious switch to the sport if he feels his chances are strong enough. “If there’s a 99 percent chance I’ll make a team, I’d go for it. But I need to be realistic if it’s not likely,” he said.

Stona’s path to athletics began when he saw fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt win his first Olympic gold in 2008. Though he initially loved soccer, Bolt’s success pushed him towards track and field. He experimented with different events until he found his passion in discus during high school.

After moving to the United States for college, he joined Arkansas, where he trained with Ryan Crouser, a three-time Olympic gold medalist. Working with Crouser boosted Stona’s confidence and helped him refine his technique.

Road to Olympic Success

To qualify for the Paris Olympics, Rojé Stona achieved an impressive 69-meter throw in the Oklahoma Throws Series, securing his place. In Paris, he had set his sights on a top-three finish, but his 70-meter throw far exceeded expectations.

“When Mykolas broke the record, I respected it. But when I threw, it felt perfect. I’m blessed it happened at the right time,” he said.

After his victory, Stona celebrated in style. He performed viral poses from the Games, including ones from Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikeç and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, bringing excitement to his win.

In addition to his success in discus, Stona’s NFL tryouts were eye-opening. Analysts described him as having a “track star’s body but suited for the NFL.” Despite being new to football, he adapted quickly, learning the plays by observing other rookies.

He acknowledged the fast pace and high expectations in the NFL, saying, “The coaches aren’t going to slow down for a beginner.”

While a mid-season NFL offer isn’t likely, Stona remains curious about the sport. “People see me and assume I’m a football player, not a discus thrower,” he joked. With guidance from coaches, he’s hoping to make an informed choice about whether to pursue a football career.

For now, Stona is focused on his discus career. His Olympic gold has fueled his confidence, and he’s eager to continue competing in major championships over the next two years. “Now that I’ve hit 70 meters, I understand what it takes to compete at this level,” he said.

Whether in the discus ring or on the football field, Stona’s journey is a testament to the exciting paths athletes can explore with dedication and a willingness to embrace new challenges.

Jefferson shared his excitement on social media, calling it a dream come true. The Vikings confirmed the deal soon after.

This contract makes Justin Jefferson the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. The deal ends months of speculation and rumors about wide receiver contracts.

Players like Amon-Ra St. Brown, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Nico Collins, Michael Pittman, and Calvin Ridley also received significant contracts during the offseason.

Justin Jefferson Becomes Highest-Paid Non-Quarterback

Jefferson’s annual salary of $35 million breaks the previous record set by Brown in April. It also surpasses San Francisco’s Nick Bosa, making Jefferson the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. The contract, which runs through the 2028 season, includes $89 million fully guaranteed at signing, according to Pelissero.

Since being drafted in 2020, Jefferson has proven to be one of the NFL’s top playmakers. He is one of five players to have over 5,000 receiving yards in their first four seasons. With 5,899 career yards, he has nearly 400 more yards than anyone else at the same stage.

His average of 98.3 receiving yards per game is the highest in NFL history (minimum 50 games). This average has increased each season (87.5, 95.1, 106.4, and 107.4 in 2023).

Jefferson’s best season was in 2022, leading the league in receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809). Justin Jefferson earned the AP’s Offensive Player of the Year award and his first All-Pro honor. Despite a hamstring injury in 2023, he still exceeded 1,000 yards in just 10 games.

With his future secured, Jefferson is set to start 2024 with a new quarterback after Kirk Cousins’ departure. Whether it’s veteran Sam Darnold or rookie J.J. McCarthy, they will benefit from Jefferson’s exceptional skills.

As the Vikings prepare for their mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, Jefferson’s contract extension allows the team to focus on the upcoming season.
