Actress Tracee Ellis Ross was the victim of a brazen home burglary after thieves forced their way into her Los Angeles residence while she was out of town.

According to NBC Los Angeles, police obtained security footage showing three suspects smashing through a rear glass door on Aug. 31. The intruders fled with an estimated $100,000 worth of jewelry and handbags.

The burglary wasn’t discovered until early Sept. 2, when staff arrived at the property and found it ransacked. Authorities have not confirmed whether Ross was specifically targeted.

The incident adds to a troubling surge of celebrity home invasions across Los Angeles. In June, Brad Pitt’s Los Feliz home was burglarized while he was away, and rapper Macklemore’s nanny was assaulted with bear mace during a break-in the same month.

Ross, 52, is the daughter of Motown legend Diana Ross and music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein. A decorated actress, she has earned three NAACP Image Awards and a Golden Globe for her acclaimed role on Black-ish.

Her latest project, Solo Traveling With Tracee Ellis Ross, was renewed for a second season last month after becoming Roku’s most-watched unscripted series upon its July premiere.

“The way the show is resonating feels truly special — all of the comments, the conversations, the connection… my cup runneth over,” Ross said in a statement following the renewal. “Here’s to all the solo travelers, the aspiring solo travelers, those who share in the joy of solo travel by watching me do it, and of course, my fellow over-packers!”

Season one documented Ross’s journeys through Morocco, Mexico, and Spain, where she explored local cultures and reflected on the personal growth that comes with solo adventures.

Police have not released additional details about the suspects in Ross’s case.

Even Hollywood royalty like Tracee Ellis Ross has her awkward friendship moments, and she recently shared a funny story involving former President Barack Obama.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live over the weekend, the Black-ish star reflected on a past podcast interview with Michelle Obama, where the two discussed Ross’ dating life. Ross described the conversation with the former First Lady as enjoyable and candid.

However, the discussion on Kimmel veered back to her love life, prompting Ross to recount how Obama “failed her as a friend” during a previous breakup. She explained that shortly after ending a relationship, she ran into the former president and shared the news. Obama allegedly quipped, “I could have told you that.”

“I was like, ‘Well, you failed as a friend. Like, it was your job to say that before,’” Ross recounted, turning the encounter into a humorous moment.

Ross also revealed that while she often seeks advice from the Obamas on love and relationships, she has never asked them to set her up, something she now thinks might be worth trying given her dating misadventures.

“I like to get set up. I’ve asked many friends, but never Michelle, which I think perhaps is dumb, and I need to get on that,” she said.

Ross prefers meeting potential partners “in the wild” rather than through dating apps, emphasizing her desire to be authentic in her approach to love. Despite her openness about her personal life, she has made it clear that she no longer wants to be labeled the “poster child for singledom,” a title Oprah once jokingly gave her.

Now, with her new traveling series on Roku, Ross aims to shift the focus entirely, declaring she wants to be celebrated as the “poster child for living in your own skin.”

Actress and entrepreneur Tracee Ellis Ross is offering a fresh and intimate look at what it means to live fully and freely in your 50s, unapologetically single, child-free, and on her own terms.

In her new Roku series Solo Traveling With Tracee Ellis Ross, the black-ish and Girlfriends star invites viewers to join her as she journeys across the globe, from Morocco to Mexico to France, exploring the world, herself, and the often-overlooked beauty of solitude.

Through vlog-style footage, Ross shares her travel routines, personal reflections, and spontaneous moments that highlight the richness of solo living.

In one poignant episode, Ross revisits a remark made by Oprah Winfrey during a 2020 Visionaries interview, where the media mogul jokingly referred to her as “the poster child for singledom.”

While the comment resonated at the time, Ross now uses the label as a jumping-off point for a deeper reflection on what it means to live a meaningful life outside of conventional norms.

“I don’t want to be the poster child for singledom,” Ross explains. “I want to be the poster child for being an inhabitant in your own skin, for living in your own skin.”

She emphasizes that her lifestyle isn’t defined by the absence of a partner or children, but by a commitment to self-exploration and joy. “Yes, I am a single Black woman who does not have children. But not having a long-term relationship or children has allowed me to explore things about my own humanity,” Ross says.

“It has deposited me here, at 52, in an extraordinary experience filled with joy, loneliness, grief, exuberance, and delight literally all of it. And I feel available to it.”

Her words echo a growing movement of women who are choosing autonomy and intentional living over societal expectations. In reflecting on her past statement to Oprah — “I am choicefully single. Gloriously single.”

Ross highlights a common double standard: “So many people have asked, ‘Have you ever thought about having children? My child gave my life meaning.’ I’m like, ‘Are you saying my life isn’t meaningful?’”

Solo Traveling With Tracee Ellis Ross is more than a travelogue, it’s a celebration of freedom, a challenge to societal norms, and an intimate portrait of a woman embracing her life as it is, not as others expect it to be.

The series is streaming now on Roku.

Tracee Ellis Ross, actress, entrepreneur, and long-time advocate for textured hair care, has reunited with her Girlfriends co-stars for the first commercial campaign by her beauty brand, Pattern.

In a short but striking 60-second advert, Ross appears alongside Golden Brooks, Persia White, and Jill Marie Jones—the original ensemble from the groundbreaking UPN series Girlfriends—in a fictional “Pattern Lounge,” where women of all curl types come together to create their ideal haircare “cocktail.”

Far from just a nod to nostalgia, the campaign serves as a celebration of the diversity and ritual behind caring for textured hair. With a tone that blends warmth, humour, and empowerment, the commercial ends with a subtle homage to Girlfriends, as the four women recreate the show’s now-iconic title sequence complete with wind-blown hair and knowing glances.

“What a dream,” Ross wrote on social media following the release. “Growing Pattern from an idea all the way to our very first brand commercial—and to bring my girlfriends back together? Through thick and thin, they’ve been here.”

Directed by Child, a rising filmmaker who is also part of the Pattern community, the ad highlights a practice familiar to many Black women: “hair cocktailing”—the layering of creams, gels, oils and conditioners to achieve personalised results based on individual texture and styling needs.

“It’s a common practice in our community,” Ross said. “We wanted to honour that with a cast of varied textures, and to show the joy that lives in those shared hair moments.”

Launched in 2019, Pattern is Ross’ response to the lack of inclusive, high-performance products for people with curly, coily, and tight-textured hair. The brand, which has grown steadily since its inception, centres on both product quality and education, encouraging people to embrace their natural texture without compromise.

Girlfriends, which aired from 2000 to 2008, was one of the earliest American series to centre Black women’s friendships, careers, and personal lives in a contemporary context. Created by Mara Brock Akil, it remains a touchstone for many fans and is often cited as one of the key forerunners to series such as Insecure and Harlem.

The reunion is not the first time the cast has reconnected on screen, Ross previously invited her co-stars for an episode of Black-ish in 2019—but it’s the first time they’ve appeared together to support a shared entrepreneurial and cultural mission.

Pattern also released behind-the-scenes footage of the commercial’s filming, offering glimpses of genuine camaraderie between the actresses—now more than two decades on from the show’s debut. They laugh, exchange styling tips, and reflect on how their friendship, like their hair, has evolved with time.
