Kim Kardashian took the stand this week in the ongoing trial of ten individuals accused of robbing her at gunpoint in a Paris hotel in 2016, offering harrowing details of a night that left a lasting impact on her life.
The reality TV star and business mogul recounted the traumatic moments when five masked men stormed her private suite during Paris Fashion Week, tied her up, and stole millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry.
“I absolutely thought I was going to die,” Kardashian told Judge David De Pas, according to NBC News. “I was sure that I was going to be raped,” she added, describing how she was left “naked” and “exposed” with tape wrapped around her legs and mouth.
Dubbed the “grandpa robbers” due to their advanced age—most are in their 70s—the group of nine men and one woman are facing charges related to the high-profile heist. One defendant has since passed away, and another was too ill to attend the hearing.
Kardashian also addressed the public skepticism she faced after the incident, especially from those who accused her of staging the robbery for her reality show. “It was really hard for me when people said I’d made it up,” she said. “I wasn’t filming my TV show. That was something that really stung deeply.”
Despite the trauma, Kardashian expressed a belief in second chances, tying it back to her growing work in criminal justice reform. “I really do believe in second chances and believe in rehabilitation,” she told the court. “I work in the justice system to provide these rehabilitation chances.”
The robbery occurred in the early hours of October 3, 2016, when five armed men disguised as police officers forced their way into the luxury residence where Kardashian was staying.
The assailants made off with two phones, 1,000 euros in cash, a purse, a ring worth $4.49 million, and a jewelry box containing items worth an additional $5.6 million. At the time, her then-husband Kanye West (now Ye) abruptly left the stage mid-performance at The Meadows Festival in New York after learning of the attack.
In January 2017, 16 people were arrested in connection with the robbery. The current trial is the result of years of investigation into one of the most talked-about celebrity crimes in recent history.
Kardashian, now a mother of four and a vocal advocate for criminal justice reform, continues to balance her public life with deeply personal experiences like this one. Her testimony served as a reminder that beneath the fame, real trauma leaves real scars.
