A federal judge has ruled that a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed against Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion by her former cameraman, Emelio Garcia, may move forward in court.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Gregory H. Woods determined that Garcia, who is openly gay, presented sufficient evidence to support claims that he was subjected to a hostile work environment due to his sexual orientation.

The lawsuit, filed in April 2024, details several alleged incidents, including one in Ibiza in 2022, where Garcia claims Megan—born Megan Pete—engaged in a sexual act with another woman in his presence, made demeaning comments about his appearance, and attempted to assault him with a remote.

Judge Woods noted in his ruling that Garcia “plausibly pleads that the alleged sexual encounter in the SUV in Ibiza created a hostile work environment based on plaintiff’s sexual orientation.”

The judge further acknowledged Garcia’s claim that Megan “would not have engaged in group sex with other women in front of a heterosexual male,” and that she felt comfortable doing so because of Garcia’s sexuality.

Garcia also alleges he faced retaliation after voicing concerns about the incident, including reduced work hours and pay, eventual termination, and being blackballed from future industry opportunities. Judge Woods found that “these facts raise a reasonable inference that material terms and conditions of plaintiff’s employment were altered in retaliation for speaking up about the Ibiza incident.”

Megan Thee Stallion and her representatives have strongly denied the allegations, labeling Garcia a “con artist” and characterizing the lawsuit as “entirely of falsehoods, misrepresentations of fact, and outlandish claims that have no basis in fact or law and no merit.”

If a settlement is not reached, the case will proceed to trial.
