Simone Biles Scores Big at 2025 ESPYS, Takes Home Two Top Honors

Olympic champion Simone Biles added to her trophy collection at the 2025 ESPYS, winning two major awards at the star-studded July 16 ceremony. The celebrated gymnast’s latest victories bring her career ESPYS total to six.

Simone Biles was honored with the night’s first award, Best Championship Performance, recognizing her stunning achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. There, Biles claimed three gold medals and a silver, helping lead Team USA to its first gymnastics team title since 2016. She also took home the ESPY for Best Athlete in women’s sports.

Notably, Simone Biles was the sole female nominee in the Best Championship Performance category, competing against sports heavyweights Stephen Curry, Freddie Freeman, and Rory McIlroy. “That was very unexpected, especially in a category of all men,” Biles said in her acceptance speech.

The 11-time Olympic medalist also took a moment to acknowledge the victims of recent flash floods in Texas, which left 134 people dead and displaced over 400 families. “Words can’t replace the pain, but our hearts are with you during this tragic time,” she offered.

Biles, a prominent advocate for mental health, credited her support system for her ongoing success. “Having a strong support system that understands your dreams, who are willing to show up for you not just when you’re winning, but when you’re struggling, too, is really important,” she shared, expressing gratitude to her team and fans.

In a backstage interview with Good Morning America, Biles admitted that even after years in the spotlight, she still experiences nerves when accepting awards, calling the experience “nerve-wracking.” She also praised her fellow nominees for their athletic achievements.

For the evening, Biles wore a custom Athleta by Zac Posen gown—a floor-length, navy blue dress inspired by a gymnast’s leotard and adorned with hand-stitched bugle beads crafted by more than 25 artists, a process that took over 1,000 hours.

Biles’s latest accolades further cement her status as one of the most decorated and influential athletes of her generation.
