Jay-Z Paternity Dispute Paused as Rymir Satterthwaite Withdraws Legal Petition

A long-running legal effort to establish hip-hop mogul Jay-Z as the biological father of Rymir Satterthwaite has come to a halt, at least for now.

Court documents filed in California on Friday, July 18, confirm that Satterthwaite has officially withdrawn his petition requesting that Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter be compelled to undergo a court-ordered paternity test. The filing marks a pause in a paternity battle that has spanned more than a decade.

The case, however, is not permanently closed. Because the petition was dismissed “without prejudice,” Satterthwaite retains the right to refile the complaint in the future.

Now in his 30s, Satterthwaite has long claimed that Jay-Z had a romantic relationship with his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, in the early 1990s, a relationship he alleges resulted in his birth in 1993.

Despite his public appeals, no paternity test has ever been conducted, and Jay-Z has consistently denied the allegations, dismissing them as “fabricated.”

In a candid interview with the Daily Mail earlier this year, Satterthwaite voiced his frustration over what he described as Jay-Z’s silence and unwillingness to address the matter in court.

“If he is not [my father], why can’t he prove me wrong?” Satterthwaite asked. “Go to the courtroom and do what everyone else has to do. I can take a no… I just can’t take him not saying anything. It’s not fair. I am coming to the courts for the truth.”

Satterthwaite insisted that his motivations were not financial, stating, “I would never hate Jay-Z. I respect him for everything he did.” He emphasized that the years-long legal fight has taken a personal toll on him and his family, especially after losing his mother in 2016.

A video recorded by Wanda before her death echoed her son’s claims. “I want the world to know that I support my son in his paternity suit with Shawn Corey Carter,” she said. “I stand by my allegations regarding this man.”

Despite the recent withdrawal, Satterthwaite has vowed not to give up his pursuit of what he sees as justice. “If it takes another 10 years. Another 50. I may take this to the grave with me,” he said. “But everyone can say I fought this until the end.”

Jay-Z has not publicly responded to the latest development in the case.
