Tyler Perry Confirms ‘Why Did I Get Married 3’ Is Finally Happening

Tyler Perry is officially bringing back one of his most beloved film franchises. On Wednesday, July 30, the media mogul confirmed that a third installment of Why Did I Get Married? is in the works, reuniting the star-studded cast that helped make the original films cultural touchstones.

Perry teased the news on Instagram with a cryptic photo of the script’s title page, simply captioned, “I’m just gonna sit this right here!” The words “Table Draft” on the page suggest that the film is either in early development or has entered the initial stages of production.

In true Perry fashion, he tagged the franchise’s core cast—Jill Scott, Lamman Rucker, Richard T. Jones, Janet Jackson, Sharon Leal, Michael Jai White, and Tasha Smith—sending fans into a frenzy online. Denise Boutte, who played the infamous Trina in Why Did I Get Married Too?, chimed in with a cheeky comment: “Who thinks Trina needs a comeback?!?!”

Tasha Smith followed up by reposting the announcement with a one-word caption that longtime fans couldn’t miss: “BOOM”—a direct nod to her character’s unforgettable outburst at the dinner table in the first film.

The buzz around a third film reignited late last year when Richard T. Jones posted a tongue-in-cheek TikTok referencing his character Mike’s betrayal of Sheila (played by Scott). One by one, cast members jumped in with their own video replies, fueling speculation. But in April, Smith dashed hopes during an interview on The Breakfast Club, saying the project was “probably not happening.”

Now, that silence has been broken—and in the best way.

While no release date or distribution details have been confirmed, fans are already celebrating the long-awaited reunion. Whether Why Did I Get Married 3 lands in theaters or on a streaming platform, one thing is clear: the couples are coming back, and the drama is far from over.
