WNBA star A’ja Wilson has been selected as one of six former student-athletes to be inducted into the University of South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame. The school made the announcement, recognizing Wilson for her remarkable career as a member of the Gamecocks basketball team from 2014 to 2018.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for October 23, with the honorees being celebrated during South Carolina’s football game against Alabama on October 25.
Wilson will be joined by five other distinguished athletes: Natasha Hastings (Women’s Track 2005-2007), Brandon Hulko (Men’s Diving 1999-2002), Paul Jubb (Men’s Tennis 2016-2020), Akram Mahmoud (Men’s Swimming 2014-2018), and Mollie Patton (Women’s Soccer 2006-2010).
Wilson, who currently plays for the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA, made an indelible impact during her college years. She was named the 2018 National Player of the Year and remains the first-ever four-time All-American in South Carolina’s history, having earned first-team All-American honors three times (2016, 2017, 2018).
Her collegiate achievements helped propel South Carolina to its first National Championship in 2017.
Throughout her time with the Gamecocks, Wilson was a dominant force on both ends of the court. She was a three-time SEC Player of the Year (2016, 2017, 2018), a two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year (2016, 2018), and the 2018 SEC Female Athlete of the Year.
She also garnered accolades such as the Most Outstanding Player at the 2017 NCAA Final Four and was a two-time SEC Tournament MVP.
Her legacy at South Carolina includes holding the school records for career points (2,389), career blocks (363), and blocks per game (2.6), as well as ranking 4th in career rebounds (1,195). Last season, South Carolina honored her by retiring her No. 22 jersey.
In addition to her collegiate success, Wilson has shined on the international stage, representing Team USA in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics and winning two gold medals. On August 6, she became the 10th player in WNBA history to reach 500 career blocks, and in June, she became the fastest woman in league history to score 5,000 career points.
Wilson’s induction into the University of South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame solidifies her status as one of the greatest athletes in the school’s history.
