Celebrating Black Business Month: LA’s Scavenger Hunt and Market Draw Crowds
Share

The California African American Museum (CAAM) is set to host a lively finale for Black Business Month, bringing together a citywide scavenger hunt and a free pop-up market celebrating local Black-owned businesses.
Organised by Prosperity Market founders Kara Still and Carmen Dianne, the month-long event has featured an interactive treasure map highlighting more than 120 Black-owned spots, from coffee shops to bookstores.
Participants earn points by visiting locations, making purchases, and solving location-based clues, with prizes awarded at the closing market on 31 August.
Now in its fifth year, Prosperity Market has grown into a mobile farmers’ market, delivering fresh, locally sourced goods directly to communities. The scavenger hunt is designed to keep dollars circulating within Black-owned enterprises while offering a fun, interactive way to discover them.

The closing celebration at CAAM will feature:
- 50+ vendors and farmers selling produce, artisanal goods, and more
- A wine garden by 1010 Wine
- A kids’ activity area hosted by Teach to Reach

Shoppers can also explore Prosperity Market’s signature mobile trailer, stocked with local and national Black-owned products. Vendors include Octavia’s Bookshelf, Sherman’s Produce, All Chill Ice Cream, and even the LA Philharmonic.
The event runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the heart of Los Angeles and is free to attend, offering Angelenos one last chance this month to support and celebrate the city’s Black business community.
