Tyrese Gibson Opens Up on Past Lifestyle, Says Excess Could Have Cost Him His Life

Actor and R&B singer Tyrese Gibson, best known for his roles in the Fast & Furious franchise and a string of hit records, has revealed deeply personal details about his past, admitting that his lifestyle once spiraled to a dangerous point.

Speaking on gospel artist Kirk Franklin’s Den of Kings podcast, Gibson reflected on his sexual history, acknowledging the large number of partners he has had over the years and the wake-up call that forced him to reassess his choices.

“I believe my number is a little scary,” the California native admitted. “A powerful man of God asked me, ‘Reese, how many more?’ And at that moment, I didn’t feel attacked, because I was already questioning my behavior.”

The 45-year-old entertainer said his lifestyle had become excessive. “I already had it in my head that I’m doing too much, too often. Too many cities, too many states, too many countries. It’s too much,” he said.

Gibson explained that the issue was not only physical but also emotional, pointing to deeper triggers behind his behavior. “You’re either a sex addict, out here losing your mind, or it’s coming from something,” he reflected. “What’s triggering your sexual appetite? Why do you want to do so much with so many?”

The Grammy-nominated artist revealed that he had convinced himself the lifestyle was temporary, but ultimately realized it could end in tragedy. “I said if I keep moving the way I’m moving, I’ma die out here. HIV, AIDS is inevitable for everyone,” he admitted.

Gibson has faced challenges in his romantic life. He was married to Norma Mitchell, with whom he shares a daughter, before divorcing in 2009. His second marriage to Samantha Lee ended in separation in 2020. Since 2021, he has been in a relationship with influencer Zelie Timothy.

Despite the turbulence, Gibson said he has been intentional about pursuing a more grounded path. “I was already prepared to settle down in my mind,” he said.
