Adrian Peterson Arrested in Texas on DWI, Weapon Charges; Second DWI this Year

Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson was arrested Sunday morning in Sugar Land, Texas, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon, authorities said. Police took Peterson, 40, into custody around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 26. As of Monday, he remained in the Fort Bend County jail while the case is under investigation.

The arrest marks Peterson’s second DWI case in 2025. In April, he was detained in Minnesota after attending a Vikings draft party; police said he was driving 83 mph in a 55-mph zone and recorded a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.14, above the state’s 0.08 legal limit.

Sugar Land authorities did not immediately release additional details about Sunday’s incident beyond the DWI and unlawful-weapon allegations. Jail records list both charges; court records were not yet available as of Monday morning.

Peterson, a first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2007, played 15 NFL seasons with seven teams and retired after the 2021 campaign. He ranks fifth on the league’s all-time rushing list with 14,918 yards and was the 2012 NFL MVP.

The former star has faced legal trouble in recent years, including a 2014 case in Texas in which he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault related to disciplining his son, and a 2022 incident in which he was arrested after a dispute on a flight to Houston; no felony charges were filed in the latter case.

During his NFL career, he had 14,918 career rushing yards and holds the record for most rushing yards in a game when he rushed for 296 yards. There is speculation that when he is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2027, he will make it in.
